2 There was presumably a big age difference. When we study the population of boys interested in older farang, it seems quite likely that there will be more money boys among that group than in a group of boys looking to meet people of their own age.

1) I only surfed on Planet Romeo when back working in the U.S. and the boys I interacted with were from all over Thailand, although, over half of them were in or near the working scenes in Pattaya and Bangkok as you noted.
I didn't automatically delete a boy because he was working the scene either - because there are some really great guys working the bar scene, although I knew my chances of finding the type of person I really wanted to meet were better if he wasn't working the scene. I was looking for "honesty" as a top priority, which, without a doubt, was my biggest challenge.
2) This is where "honesty" comes in. There are some gays in Thailand who actually prefer older more mature partners, although, in my opinion a higher percentage prefer someone in their same age group. So finding someone who could push all my buttons, who honestly preferred having an intimate relationship an older male became that much more difficult.
I'll never forget a discussion I was having with Yaya at his bar in Sunee one night- when he told me about the first time he met his partner Barry from the U.S. He said Barry was the most handsome man he had ever seen and he's been in heaven ever since hooking up with him. Barry was my age - and I imagine Yaya was around 20 y/o at the time.
I still see Yaya on occasion - as he teaches a early morning yoga class near Dong Tan Beach. He told me that he and Barry were still together and happy as ever. I imagine they've been together now for around 15 years or so.
Yes, sites like Grindr are filled with money-boys who will say anything to hook a farang as a financial sponsor, but there's also some real gems who are hoping to meet a like-minded partner to share their lives with. One has to be willing to wade patiently through some really deep weeds if that's what he's interested in.
