After reading your comments, I typed "update history" and "update settings" in the bottom search box to find out what's going on with my PC.
As far as I can tell, you can only pause updates for 35 days, not stop them.

Incidentally, when I first installed Windows 10, the feature I disliked more than any other was the change to the function of that search box.
They made it dual purpose, not only searching the PC, but searching the Internet as well & worse still, with Bing.
That's no use when I use it for searching my PC.
I managed to turn that off with some registry edits (found via google), but by the time I put Windows 10 on a PC for my mother, there were menu settings to fix the same problem.

I plan to try Ubuntu or Mint next.

Now that is a good question. Microsoft have to occasionally sell a new OS to make money, but why not actually try to improve it ? That would be a good way to sell a new product.
I did several google searches for "why is Windows 11 better than Windows 10" etc.

I checked several results, but naturally only sites that are independent of Microsoft. Via that route, I have yet to find a feature improvement that I want. They have done pointless rearranging of menus. But nothing I want.

As for what I'd like, how about:
1 A facility to rename files that are open (google drive can do this, Microsoft cannot)
2 A shutdown option to "Save EVERYTHING and shut down"
3 Some AI that predicts where I want to save a file based on it's type and my history (& gets it right mostly)

Someone did tell me it has a new screenshot tool that can screenshot tables and they paste into Excel as tables. Now that IS a feature I'd want, but they need more than that when Microsoft require me to buy a new PC to run this OS.

I'm with you. I'm a great believer in the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I have seen nothing about Windows 11 that gives me any reason to want much of anything offered, especially when I would have to upgrade my computer's hardware or possibly even have to buy a new computer to have it. It simply is not good enough to have me salivating for it.

I see it as nothing more than an attempt by Microsoft to relieve me of some money to enhance their own coffers while offering me no special incentive.

Sorry Microsoft:
