Certainly they are working illegally, which puts them in Thailand illegally whether they have passport and visa or not. But the primary purpose of dealing with illegal workers is to get rid of the ones whose jobs are depriving Thais. Nowadays it is rare for Thais to want to be go-go boys, so these go-go boys are harming no one.

While these boys are definitely breaking the law, this is one time it might be good for the police to look the other way
Thailand allegedly has a labour shortage, so stopping immigrant workers makes no sense.

As for the police looking the other way, well they're not motivated by doing the right thing. They're motivated by tea money.

For example, they will regularly ship off motorcycles parked on the "bus stops", which are redundant, whilst doing almost nothing to enforce road safety or vehicle pollution laws.

They're only going to look the other way when the bars have paid their tea money.

I had a look in Boyztown Tuesday evening. The police raid had made an obvious impact! Toyboys had 0 (zero) boys on stage when I was there and just a few sitting outside. The open air bars had almost all seats empty. It was obvious many boys were missing and therefor fewer customers.

If their concern were foreign bar staff, presumably they would also be raiding bars elsewhere in town?
Since both the successful gay areas have foreign staff, I'd imagine the girly bars have them too. Occasionally one of the boys mentions a sister working in a bar here. So I would imagine there are bars all over town with foreign staff.

Or are they just raiding bars that aren't paying enough?

A few more boys in Toy Boys last night (Wednesday) but I was the only customer. I offed one of the boys and he was excellent. Elsewhere I was told that bars are closing early if they have no customers.

Walking Street has had the same police attention as Boztown.
