No.
Anyone who paid attention during their school physics lessons ought to be able to total up the wattage of all their appliances, divide by the voltage and then add a safety margin.

Secondly, even if the supply is inadequate, it's not a safety hazard if the current rating of the circuit breakers is set correctly. For example, if I plugged my 13A kettle into his 5A system, it should immediately trip the circuit breaker.

Most power circuits in my UK house have a ring main with cable rated at 20A, so 40A total for the ring. That's protected by a 32A circuit breaker, so we can never exceed the capacity of the circuit.
If it's a spur, the cable capacity is 20A, so a 16A circuit breaker is used.

If you ask one thousand Thais if they know this calculation - one thousand Thais would tell you they didn't, unless in fact they did a google search, which I'm assuming you did.

Most house fires in Thailand are caused by poor wiring, thus the reason it's always recommended that a certified electrician inspect the wiring before making changes...including just increasing amps.

The amperage should be perfectly balanced, too high current flow could damage parts of the circuit and cause a fire.

This isn't the UK.

As mentioned previously, if it's done properly, each circuit would have a circuit breaker that trips out below the capacity of the cable. So it will not cause a fire.
If you have too many appliances on one circuit, it's going to be tripping out too often, but no fires.

If I ever buy a property in Thailand, I'll be inspecting the electrical installation myself. And rectifying any problems myself, so I know it's done properly.

Gents, this topic seems to have morphed into a discussion about electrical circuits and wattage when it is supposed to be about translation problems. Let's please get back on topic.

My Cambodian acquaintance just replied to me with the same message I just sent to him.

I suppose that's one possible result when relying 100% on google translate and 0% on checking it yourself.

I met the Cambodian lad again. The one who speaks very little English and has mastered the art of breaking google translate.

I messaged him, with my new hotel name and asking what time. Specifying 5:00pm or later. He jumps on a motorcycle to my previous residence. He still manages to arrive at the correct hotel, before I showered, at about 4:15pm.
Despite the chaos, he's very good.

Well, as several staff left the bar, my Cambodia acquaintance now seems to be the one cracking the whip and showing the new lads the ropes.
Remarkably, two of their new staff speak even less English than he does, so he's translating for them. Good to see him stepping up.

Apparently the Asian guy behind the bar is the boss, but he's not exactly proactive.
