I think it's amazing watching so many humans staring at their phones when they're out in public settings as if they're in a trance, while totally ignoring "Life" around them as if they're locked inside a plastic bubble floating around in an alternate universe.
The last time I visited the bar scene I sat sipping my beer while watching tables filled with boys sitting right next to tables filled with farang - as they ALL just sat there...heads hung low...almost catatonic looking...pushing buttons, while totally ignoring each other as if they were programmed not to socialize with each other in this alternate universe of theirs. It was actually hilarious. Farang looking for boys, and boys looking for farang, while sitting right next to each other...blind to their own blindness.
If anyone wants to test their own level of addiction to their smartphones just do a simple test: The next time you go out for an evening of fun on the scene don't take your smartphone with you. Sound easy? I'd wager that well over 80% would fail this test. Not me.

Re: Boys
I would fail, but not because I would sit there staring into it all night. I just like having it with me because in case something happens, I can call for help. If I get lost, I can use the GPS to either get me where I'm trying to go or get me home.
The last couple times I was in Bangkok and used the MRT, everybody in the same car I was in, and I mean everybody, were all staring into their phones. I wonder if any of them missed their stop.
I'm waiting for an app to come out (if there isn't one already) that alerts people walking and staring into their phones at the same time, that they are about to collide into an obstruction or another person.
Re: Boys
By some coincidence, he contacted me again as I was visiting his home province.
He was very keen to meet, for a suitable fee, which was OK with me.
This enthusiasm lasted up to the point where I told him I'm a butterfly, when he suddenly cooled off.
He's looking for a boyfriend. Which is odd, as his Facebook profile shows he still has the same boyfriend as before
The last post professing love for that boyfriend was just one day before.
Re: Boys
I see this in just about every public setting where people are congregated...leaving me wonder if any of them are missing "Life".
I don't mean to sound like I'm criticizing people who use the dating apps all the time, because that's not my intent...I'm just frustrated at the direction things are headed with the internet and social media in general.
What people do is their own business, and there are certainly advantages when it comes to hooking up for those who don't like to frequent the commercial gay scenes too much...no doubt about it. To each their own as they say.
Re: Boys
I also dislike the direction. We even see people at a restaurant, all on their phones rather than chatting.Dodger wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 11:02 am I see this in just about every public setting where people are congregated...leaving me wonder if any of them are missing "Life".

People typically consume trash like Tik Tok or Candy Crush, rather than something more educational.
We also see toddlers on phones, so the addiction is likely to become more entrenched.
However, for dating, I get better results on the apps. I occasionally off boys from bars, but if I rank the boys I meet on holidays, the app boys are usually above the bar boys.
I can also meet boys at more convenient times on the apps.
Planning is also easier with phone communication. I'm sure we've all had experience of going out with the intention of meeting a particular bar boy, then finding he isn't there, or is already sat with another customer.
Re: Boys
Examples of phone distraction in the last week:
1 The lady at Lawson stood behind a counter sending text messages instead of serving customers.
2 The Grab driver who was walking whilst looking at his phone. He suddenly changed direction and walked into me.
3 The massage boy who thought sending text messages was more important than doing his job. His phone was bleeping constantly. After a phase of one handed massage and stopping massage entirely for a while, I asked him to put the phone down. He continued texting, so I walked out.
I've read reviews about such things on google maps reviews, but this was the first time I encountered a bad case of it.

Re: Boys
He probably saw you holding your phone in your hand while receiving the massage and was just trying to message you...

Re: Boys
I'm not using my phone during any massage. Well, not other than for a time check before and after.
This massage place was on the edge of Buriram. Despite zero chance of passing trade, their advertising is minimal. They sent me pictures of all the boys before I went there.
I took a grab taxi and it's a bungalow almost in the countryside. Several boys were on their phones outside and were not disturbed from that by the arrival of a customer.
Rather than a physical line up, he showed me the boys on a tablet. This selection omitted one of the two lads of interest from the selection of pictures sent earlier. Even though I walked past that one on the way in.
I selected the other cute lad.
I showered and there was quite a long wait before he arrived. So long that I almost left before the massage started.
Whether he was busy with another customer or couldn't drag himself away from his phone is unclear? Probably the latter.
So 3 or 4 cases of Android interfering with the process of getting a massage.
Admittedly, I wouldn't have found them without the internet. That's the same internet we're using for this board.
