Why would they need more than one office ? How many do they have for heterosexual weddings ?

One office would be one office more than most of us need.

I would presume that even the minority planning to use it only intend to do so just once? ;)

I have no idea what they would need, but if there are going to be 878 offices, Pattaya will have only one? Maybe that sounds right to you, but not to me. Where do you think 878 offices are going to be located? That number doesn't sound right to me either. Why would they need so many offices? Now I'm wondering if Pattaya Mail got the number right.

I'm not getting married, so personally I couldn't care less, but I would like to have accurate information to tell my readers - and as of yet I don't have much of anything other than 2lz2p's post. And unless I missed it, even he cannot yet confirm that Banglamung District Office will be one of those offices.

I think they will be in the same location as the current 878 offices. Why do you think it would be any different?

Marriage isn't anything new. They have just expanded eligibility.
Even with a few same sex marriages, I guess the total number of marriages will decrease due to the low birth rate in the last 20 years.

I don't know where any of those offices are. Again I suppose the boy would know, but so far I have been unable to find out.

In Pattaya, is there more than one place to register the marriage? Do you, or anyone reading this, know where they are? That is what I am trying to find out.

I also wonder what the first scam will be . . .

I thought 2lz2p had already kindly shared the location.

I guess the 3 board members planning to get married will eventually report on their experience.
Is it a nice efficient office, or one that's so bad that customers hand over a pile of tea money to an agency?

As I said, he has not confirmed that it even is a location. So far nobody has confirmed it.

Also, with so many of these offices, why the assumption that if it is a location, then it must be Pattaya's only location? Are there other Pattaya locations too?

That's all I'm trying to find out. I'm not looking to have a debate about it.

It may not be coincidence that Thailand has exactly 878 amphoe, of which each already has one district office, making a total of 878 offices  .
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_d ... f_Thailand

(Instead of amphoe, Bangkok has 50 khet not included in that total, so the real number of offices is probably 928.)

PS here's the official UK government advice for British nationals intending to get married in Thailand:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/confirm-you ... n-thailand
It refers several times to the district office so clearly that's where you file the paperwork.
However, it appears that you don't actually have to be married at the district office, you just need a registrar:

"You can also pay a fee for the registrar to marry you at your chosen venue."

PPS in the Thai document included in the 5th message in this thread, scroll down to the English section, where you will find:

"1.2 Locations for Marriage Registration
• District registration offices, municipal offices, and Thai embassies/ consulates
1.3 Required Documents
• Identification card or verification through the ThaiD application. Foreign nationals or those without ID cards must present equivalent official documents, such as a passport.
• Prenuptial agreement (if applicable).
• Marriage status certification showing no existing spouse (for foreign nationals).
• Guardian’s consent letter for minors aged 18 but not yet legally adult.
• Two witnesses of legal age and mental competence.
Foreign language documents must be translated into Thai and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
1.4 Marriage Registration Process
1. Submit Form KR.1 to the registrar.
2. The registrar checks eligibility, legal conditions, and documentation, recording details in the registry.
3. The applicants, guardians (if any), and witnesses sign the family registration. 4. The registrar finalizes the process by signing and storing the information digitally.
1.5 Duration
• 20-30 minutes, depending on the complexity of prenuptial agreements.
1.6 Fees
• Free for registration at designated offices.
• 200 THB for off-site registrations plus reasonable transportation costs.
• 10 THB per copy for document extracts. "

and much more.

It is my understanding that to have a legal marriage in Thailand only requires it be registered. An actual ceremony is not necessary. Likewise, having a ceremony does not make it a legal marriage - I have seen numerous articles over the years of gays having a marriage ceremony which of course had no legal standing. Now that the law has changed, gays will be able to have a legal marriage.

As to location, again, the only place I know of in Pattaya where it can be registered is the Banglamung District Office. But as GB has requested, someone may post other locations that might be available.
