Pang Sida Butterfly Watch 1 July – 31 August 2016

Post by Trongpai »

I'm planing a trip soon to Pang Sida National Park in Sa Kaew province for the annual butterfly festival. Has anyone been? Near by lodging advise or any tips for the province? I rather not stay in a park cabin and I'm looking for more comfortable accommodations.

I went June 2015, but butterfly watching was thwarted by rain in the morning of the day I went, so I aborted and went straight back to Bangkok (my longest and most direct hitchhike by the way: I just wanted to hitchhike back to Sakaew, but in the National Park, a group of students - unfortunately none of them cute - from Bangkok stopped and took me back all the way, even passing my room in Sathorn as they were coming from Rama 2, and refused to take any money but at the end I managed to force some hundred Baht onto them).

There is only one bus from Sakaeo that passes the National Park, and that bus runs only few times per day. But no problem for you if you go by car.

There must be some choice of hotel in Sakaeo town. If you like dogs, I can give you name of place I stayed in (near bus station), owner has several Siberian Sheperds.

There is a weird rock เจดีย์ หินสมอง on the grounds of the National Park, but cannot be reached from main entrance. That rock was my main incentive to go, but I didn't reach it, I don't even know where exactly it is, but could gather more information and it seems getting there included a 1 hour walk each way through forest and mountain.

But I recently went to Lalu rocks, and that is highly recommended if you like rocks. http://christianpfc.blogspot.de/2016/06 ... vince.html

Apart from that, not much of interest for me in Sakaeo province.
