Hopf Brew House

Post by lvdkeyes »

Last night we tried this restaurant on the recommendation of our Italian neighbor. I don't know how long this place has been open, but I have never seen it before or heard anyone mention it. We arrived quite late for dinner (920PM). The place looks small from outside, but it is huge. They have live band. I think they are Filipino. They play mostly English language songs and the music is not too loud. It looks like a German beer hall and make their own beer. They serve Italian and other European food. The portions are large and prices are reasonable. Their pizza is among the best I have had in Pattaya. The menu says if you want your pizzas very crispy tell the waiter. I did, but mine came very soft and floppy. I told the waiter and he immediately whisked it off and came back a few minutes later and said, "They make new for you." I was surprised. The new pizza arrived very crispy and didn't bend at all. Just as I like it. I had order the four seasons with anchovies added. It was easily enough for two. My bf had seafood pasta and he was very pleased with it. I had a small taste and agreed it was very good. We both had water to drink. They do add service and VAT which is posted on the menu. Our bill was 660THB. We were seated near the service counter and could see the food coming out. The portions of what looked like crispy pork knuckle were very generous. The staff were friendly, polite and efficient. We will definitely be going back. It is located on Beach Road just north of Pizza Hut.

I know this restaurant and I agree with your report, lvdkeyes. I made pretty much the same experience. It is a reasonably priced restaurant worth giving a try.

For those who wish to give it a try, the Pizza Hut is located on Beach Road at Soi 13/2. Hopf Brew House is at Soi 13/1. See: http://www.soidb.com/pattaya/restaurant ... house.html

It has been several years since I have eaten there - as I recall, the food was good and their beer was acceptable. I saw some reports a few years ago where gay couples were being denied entrance as not being the type of clientele they wanted. So, never went back - maybe it is time to try it again.

We didn't encounter any such discrimination. I think it's a mistake to stop going anywhere because someone reported they had a problem. If I experienced this myself I certainly wouldn't go back, but who can say what the motivation was for such reports?

So in other words if you experienced that type of discrimination and reported it here, we should ignore it because we don't know what your motivation was in reporting it????????

Ridiculous!!!

I would consider the source just as I am considering the source here now.

Let's talk about Route 66, one of my favorite venues in Bangkok, supposedly discriminating against ladyboys. (I duck down and cover while writing this!)

It has nothing to do with good humor. The whole purpose of boards is to provide information on all sorts of things. Naturally that information is always provided with the biases of the poster.

The reader takes that into consideration and decides whether to follow that information.

For someone to say that there is no reason to consider information posted without knowing who posted it is contrary to good reasoning.

For instance I would be likely to visit the restaurant in this thread because I know Lvdkeyes is knowledgeable in food. If someone else posted it who I did not know , I would consider it in my choice but it would not be definitive.

And so should someone consider a report in the negative about the restaurant and unless you know for a fact that the poster had an axe to grind , the information should not be discarded.
