Three-Hour Downpour Floods Pattaya

Post by Gaybutton »

Pattaya is finally getting rain, but unfortunately much of it is damaging rain. Meanwhile it has hardly put a dent in the low water level at the Maprachan reservoir. Rain water apparently does not get channeled into the reservoir, so most of the water ends up wasted.

Does this part of the article come as any surprise? "widespread flooding as the drainage system failed to cope with the deluge" It doesn't cope very well during ordinary rains either. Despite sois being torn up to install better drain pipes, the results are not exactly impressive. The usual severe flooding areas, as far as I can tell, still get just as flooded as ever.

Three-Hour Downpour Floods Pattaya, Damages Dozens of Vehicles

By Aim Tanakorn

4 September, 2024

Three hours of heavy rain left parts of Pattaya underwater, with dozens of vehicles damaged.

On September 3rd, 2024, The Pattaya News reporters observed severe weather conditions in Pattaya, where thunderstorms and heavy rain persisted for more than three hours.

The downpour caused water levels to rise rapidly, leading to widespread flooding as the drainage system failed to cope with the deluge. Several areas were severely affected, particularly locations prone to flooding after just 30 minutes of continuous rain, such as Pattaya Third Road, Sukhumvit Road near South Pattaya Highway, and the road along the railway between Khao Talo and Soi Wat Tham Samakkhi.

The flooding on these main roads made it impossible for motorcycles and small cars to pass. Numerous vehicles were damaged as some drivers attempted to drive through the floodwaters, only to have their vehicles swept away by the strong currents. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries. Good Samaritans and officials also assisted in pushing the stranded vehicles to the roadside.

They have out some 2 metre diameter pipe on the bottom end of second road. I stood inside one section.
Did that area flood?

That's the kind of pipework that could to make a difference, but I'm not sure if it discharged into sometging of 2m or more in diameter. That little detail wasn't in the plans next to the works

A friend was in a Club in the Southern part of Pattaya and he said the power failed because of the storm and they had to leave in the dark and paddle their way home.
