Nam Prik Ong

Post by American Teacher »

Greetings! This is my favorite dish in Thailand but is sometimes tricky to find outside of the northern areas. Does anyone know any restaurant that offers this delicious dish?

Thanks,

You make it sound really good. I wouldn't mind giving it a try myself.

This is the Thai word for it: น้ำพริกอ่อง

I asked a Thai friend about it this morning. He says it is a northern Thai specialty, so most Thai restaurants in Pattaya won't have it. The restaurants in Pattaya, he says, serve mostly Bangkok style food, which is different.

He doesn't know offhand any restaurants in Pattaya that would have it, but he is going to check around and also ask his Thai friends. If they manage to come up with a local Thai restaurant that serves it, he will let me know and I will post it.

Adding Pattaya & searching น้ำพริกอ่อง พัทยา shows Ginger Farm Kitchen in Terminal 21, with the dish on their FB menu.

Pasting a link with Thai characters seems to fail.

I have never eaten at that restaurant.

Seems like your best chance of finding it in Pattaya is the restaurant Jun recommends. My Thai friends are aware of what it is, but they don't know of any local restaurants that serve it. One said at the local large open air markets there are food vendors who would make it for you upon request, but unless you have a Thai friend with you it would be very difficult to find a vendor who would even have the ingredients, let alone make it for you. And it would likely be very difficult even for a Thai friend - and who knows which of the Thai open air markets would be able to make it? So, I suggest trying the Ginger Farm Kitchen as Jun recommends.

You might also try one of the places listed here: https://aseannow.com/topic/1243404-good ... n-pattaya/

If anyone tries Ginger Farm Kitchen, or another restaurant that serves it, and posts a review, I will move this topic to the "Restaurant Reviews & Recipe Exchange" forum
