Thai MP Proposes to Fully Legalize Adult Media and Sex Toys
By Kittisak Phalaharn
21 July, 2024
Thai Opposition MP Mr. Taopiphop Limjittrakorn from the Move Forward Party called on his social media page to legalize and regulate adult films and sex toys instead of totally banning them in Thailand.
Mr. Taopiphop stated that the government should allow the parliament to deliberate on Section 287 of the criminal code, which currently prohibits adult media and adult toys under a total ban. He emphasized that the proposal aims to “unlock Thailand’s adult industry while maintaining regulations and not promoting complete freedom.”
Mr. Taopiphop’s proposed amendment includes:
1. Permitting certain types of adult media with restrictions, including prohibiting access to individuals under 20 years old and banning content with violent scenes such as rape.
2. Legalizing sex toys to make sure they meet safety standards, which will be overseen by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to protect users and prevent illegal trading.
Mr. Taopiphop acknowledged that this topic might raise controversy, but he is open to any criticism. He stressed that it is more important to have an open debate to learn about the dissenting opinions.
He also clarified that the proposed amendment will not personally benefit him but sees it as his duty as Thai people’s representative to push societal boundaries through democratic mechanisms and parliamentary discussions.
Thailand’s current ban on adult content sees thousands of websites blocked in Thailand and regular raids on content creators on platforms like OnlyFans, although enforcement generally only happens when material goes viral.

It would be great to get Pornhub and Gayboystube back on-line again, but as far as dildos -we're content with those curved green things that look like cucumbers they sell in the market. So many sizes and shapes to choose...all natural...only 5 baht...and disposable.
We saw our building cleaning lady who has a habit of rummaging through our garbage eating one once. We wanted to stop her - but what could we say? Think about it for a minute...

You shouldn't have any trouble getting into those. Just use a VPN and you'll be right in.
It is an exercise in futility for the government trying to decide what you can and cannot view. There are always ways to get around their restrictions. Trying to censor out those sites and trying to tell adults they're not allowed to look at porn sites doesn't work and shouldn't work. I don't need government officials deciding for me what I can look at online.

Sex toys are another one of those things that are openly sold on street side stalls. Including places like Sukhumvit Bangkok.
The only defensible legal restriction ought to be controlling where such things are sold, so that it's both tasteful & out of sight of young children.
However, they are totally illegal, but still sold on the side of the street.
I presume this failure is down to tea money again.
