Bangkok Protest today

Here we go again. I got caught in the protest today coming out of MBK and could not get to the BTS. I knew that a protest was planned but I was told it would be on the sky walk down around Central World. Either the location was changed or I had bad information. This is all I found in the press now, perhaps tomorrow the Post will run a story.

Some were shouting Prayuth ock-Bye, Parayuth get out and others had make shift printed signs in Thai and English calling Parayuth mafia. The chant was led by guys with bull horns. No red shirts now it's orange hats--some anyway, most did not have the hat and many were onlookers rather than protesters. They held up three fingers in protest, I have no idea?

OK so what's all this about? It's not paid for by that someone with a lot of money and an axe to grind that has been known to rent a mob for 300B per day, per person?

They managed to shut down the BTS station and jam up traffic, nothing new there. They all jammed into the BTS after and I got the impression that the protesters were not from Bangkok as few had Rabbit Cards and they were in a very long line to buy tickets at the counters.

Oh you obviously do not monitor thai politics very closely, do you ? This was a flash mob that Thanathorn, the leader of Future Forward Party had called for at the very last minute (I saw the call on a boy's Facebook yesterday). He is now facing charge which can get him barred from thai politics, and his party faces the threat of dissolution. Thanathorn is very popular especially among thai youth.

Some expats obviously do not have interest in Thai politics and I can understand why. But from time to time things get serious and it is worthwhile to pay attention. Three fingers is borrowed from Hollywood blockbuster "Hunger games". As for your second phrase that I singled out, I hope you were not supporter of yellow shirts. Some veteran posters on this message board were. i hope you realize that yellow shirts was a fascist movement (and so was the subsequent one led by khun Suthep).

Its about the dissolution of this new FFP-future forward- of khun Thanatorn, which is esp. appealing to many modern thinking BKKers. Mob (this is the normal Thai word for any demo) was already also announced in BKK-post of sat morning so must have planned at least eve before. Passed by in a bus around 18.20 and was still pretty and unusual full there, also street level. Looks many people were looking but not too overtly joining in.
Seems that former Pheu/Rak etc reddish fraction has gone nearly to normal opposition, now a new partee has taken over as scapegoat for anything in the eyes of current military-civil govmt
FFP wants to scrap the old-style role call for young male Thai to serve elder generals as houseboy as way of doing the soldiertime-not only that, but even to scrap the whole conscript thing.

Following Thai politics since last century, live here, been through the overthrow of two democratic elected governments and the current junta government, all cheered on by the Nation, Suthep and others.

Ah, OK I did not like the movie 'Hunger Games' and found it silly and stopped watching after 10 min. The BF liked the movie but when I asked what's up with the three fingers he did not know.

As a foreigner living in Thailand I don't support any Thai political causes. I do not believe in foreign intervention in a local politics--where did I hear that from?

So, can someone with or without pretensions inform us is this FFP-future forward party in anyway connected to Thaksin Shinawatra?

Folks, please be careful what you post on this topic. I have no intention of ending up arrested for the sake of anyone's post - and in Thailand you can be arrested if you ruffle the wrong feathers.

Fair warning - if I see a post I think could place me and this board in legal jeopardy, I will not only delete the post, but I will delete this entire topic.

I have no problem if anyone wants to post what the news media is reporting, but if posts start getting specific about which Thai politicians you do or do not support, the topic goes.
