A former Thai woman, who lost both legs while flying a US Army helicopter in Iraq, is running for a senate seat from the state of Illinois. In a debate last night, her opponent, Sen. Mark Kirk, made a statement that called confounded many because it was at odds with the military history of both sides of her family.
Kirk has been twice cited in the past for misrepresenting his military service.
Laddy Tammy Duckworth was born in Bangkok and elected to the US House of Representatives in 2012.

Re: Bangkok Native Seeks US Senate Seat
And the repugnant she is running against questioned her "real Americanism" because her mother is Thai.
Re: Bangkok Native Seeks US Senate Seat
CHICAGO — Illinois Republican U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk apologized Friday for mocking his Democratic rival’s immigrant background and her claim that her family’s military service dates back to the Revolution — comments that drew wide criticism and threatened an already difficult re-election campaign.
“Sincere apologies to an American hero, Tammy Duckworth, and gratitude for her family’s service,” Kirk wrote in a Twitter post.

Because they are.
Not only has Kirk been slipping in the polls, he faces a double whammy: Trump jumped all over this controversy on Twitter because Kirk had earlier disowned him.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Re: Bangkok Native Seeks US Senate Seat
It may be red all over the presidential race but there's a reason for Thais to celebrate:
CHICAGO — Senator Mark S. Kirk of Illinois, who had been seen as perhaps the most imperiled incumbent Republican in the Senate, on Tuesday lost his job to Representative Tammy Duckworth, putting both of the state’s Senate seats in the control of Democrats.

She will make an Outstanding US Senator
Thailand and Illinois can be PROUD

Re: Bangkok Native Seeks US Senate Seat
The Republicans protected all but two of their incumbent Senators, the above mentioned Mark Kirk in Illinois(lost) and Senator Ayotte lost to her Democratic challenger, Maggie Hassan, in New Hampshire. The new Senate will have 51 Republicans.
Re: Bangkok Native Seeks US Senate Seat
And the Republicans retained control of the US Senate.
NOW it's important to CHANGE the rules of the Senate...
Do away with the filibuster rule.
And in the midyear elections of 2018 the Democrats will be challenged trying to defend their Senators up for reelection.
