Florida - again?

It came down to Florida deciding the Bush-Gore election. I was watching news analysis programs today, such as Face the Nation. What I gathered from what they were saying, if Clinton takes Florida, the election is over. As they see it, without Florida Trump doesn't stand a chance. Even with Florida, he would also have to win all the battleground states and flip at least one of the 'leaning Democrat' states to have any chance of winning. And so far the early voting in Florida is going in Clinton's favor.

NBC's Final Battleground Map Shows Clinton With a Significant Lead

by Chuck Todd, Mark Murray and Carrie Dann

NBC's final battleground map: Clinton 274, Trump 170

In our final battleground map of the 2016 presidential race, Hillary Clinton holds a substantial lead over Donald Trump with one day before Election Day. Clinton has 274 electoral votes in her column -- which is unchanged from last week, and which also is more than the 270 needed to win the presidency. Trump, meanwhile, is at 170 electoral votes, down from 180 last week. And we have 94 electoral votes in the Tossup column.

____________________________________________________________________

If NBC is correct, then even if Trump gets all 94 tossup electoral votes he will end up with a grand total of 264 electoral votes.

Different sources show different numbers, but virtually all of them, with few exceptions, show Clinton over the 270 magic number.

Today, even Fox News is saying Clinton will probably get 283 electoral votes and Trump will get 192 electoral votes, with 63 in the tossup column.

Don't forget, despite popular vote numbers, the electors can vote for whoever they want to vote for. Fox News is reporting that two electors in Washington state have said even if Clinton wins the popular vote, they will not cast their ballot for Clinton. They also did not say who they intend to cast their votes for - meaning not necessarily Trump.

In the event of a Hillary win, what would Bill's title be?

From what I'm hearing, his title would be "First Gentleman."

As of the time of this post, I've looked at every electoral prediction map I could find and all of them are giving the election to Hillary Clinton. If it works out that way, and obviously I hope it does, for me the next two key questions are:

1 - Will she also get a Democrat congress?

2 - Will Trump bow out gracefully or will he be a sore loser and still continue trying to cause as much trouble as he can? Three guesses as to what I think Trump would do. Unfortunately, Trump would not be alone in that. Even if Trump loses and does disappear from the political scene, there are still Republican congressmen and senators already vowing to do everything they can to render Clinton's presidency as ineffective as possible, even if they have to continue the gridlock that plagued Obama's administration.

While the Republicans are now threatening to tie down Clinton with all kinds of congressional investigations, I don't know quite how it works, but I wonder if Obama could, or would, simply issue a pardon for Clinton before he leaves office, as Gerald Ford did for Richard Nixon. Would that halt congressional investigations or render them a moot point waste of time and taxpayer dollars (which such investigations would be anyway)?

Pardoning Richard Nixon was a factor in costing Ford the election, but what would Obama have to lose besides pissing off a lot of Republicans, which I'm sure would just bring tears to his eyes?

I'm also wondering what Obama is planning to do once he leaves office. I'm wondering if Hillary would offer him some sort of position and whether he would accept.

In the event of a Trumpet victory this is the most appropriate bit of footage I can think of.

Interesting question. I don't think any former president has ever again served in federal office. In any case, I don't see any way she'd make an overture or that he'd accept. Obama plans to play a lot of golf and write that book that all ex-presidents do.

From the Nov. 3 Wall St. Journal:
"Senior executives at three major publishing houses each said they would be very interested in the prospect of publishing a presidential memoir by Mr. Obama. “This is a book that will be read in 100 years,” one editor said.... Two publishing executives suggested that Mr. Obama could match the $15 million that Alfred A. Knopf paid for former President Bill Clinton’s 2004 memoir, “My Life.” That work went on to sell 2.9 million copies in all formats, according to Knopf."

Suddenly it feels so much better being an expat.
