Not so surprising when you consider that we as Americans need warning labels telling us not to eat soap.

The wink ;) should have given it away, but for your benefit I will consider making it even more obvious next time. Joke or not though, I think it wouldn't actually work.

Still the very real problem remains, the political system (or culture?) is broken and I don't see how it will be fixed from within the system.

If Trump were to win and do all he says, then a military takeover might just happen.

I'd expect Trump's supporters, especially the Southern militia type, to oppose that very violently. They, too, have considerable firepower, so I can only imagine the bloody mess that could trigger. Any good general contemplating mutiny would have to take that into account, even if President Trump went totally off the trolley.

The idea of a military coup in the USA as even a remote possibility reminds me of "Seven Days in May." For those who believe a military coup attempt is absolutely impossible in the USA, you might want to read the book or see the movie.

And if you believe a foreign power taking control of the USA is absolutely impossible, read the book or see the original 1962 movie "The Manchurian Candidate."

Farfetched ideas, of course, but in these times in this political climate, who knows . . . ?

Supposedly when he first discovered that the Russians were putting nuclear missiles into Cuba in October of 1962, President Kennedy supposedly said, "Assuming Krushchev hasn't gone off the deep end and intends to start World War 3, what the hell is he thinking?"

It baffles me, too. A gay friend here, born in the USA and now about 33 has parents that came here illegally from Mexico, is married to a rational man and STILL emphatically endorses this guy I consider to be a buffoon...at best. However, he earned his citizenship, pays his taxes and can vote for anyone he wants, I suppose.

A side story: I was working a Democratic phone bank a couple of weeks ago and for some bizarre reason called a number on my list that turned out to be his. He recognized my voice and we both laughed. We arranged to meet for coffee after the maelstrom's over, with the "loser" picking up the tab. I'm pretty sure we BOTH think we're winning come Tuesday night. The sad part is this: if my friend's candidate wins, a LOT of us lose, IMHO.

I absolutely understand anyone who wants to vote for someone outside the political system. Lord knows, I have railed against the political system in the UK for decades. Alas, here it is the same wankers who remain in charge of the country regardless of my desire. The problem here is that they have chosen the the wrong horse to saddle up with. By all means find a champion to give the political elite a whack over the head but at least choose someone who will give some credibility to any future outsider who stands for the office.

I am horrified at the prospect of a Trump presidency. I have contemplated selling my home and moving to Central America to avoid the cataclysm that would surely ensue. I teased TJ that I welcomed a Trump / Robertson ticket, that there was no way this great country had enough racist, homophobic, misogynist, bigots to elect someone that would thrust this country back to the days of hatred, lynchings and coat hanger abortions. I pray I am right, if not, the country is surely doomed for many generations and maybe for all time.

I can see it now - back to Whites Only restrooms, Whites Only waiting rooms, restaurants and hotels refusing to serve blacks (and probably Muslims too), a new rise of the Ku Klux Klan, acquittals of whites who murder blacks and Muslims, and make sure to include having to sit in the back of the bus and giving up bus seats for whites.

And don't forget persecution of gays. Gotta have persecution of gays again - repeal of every LGBT favorable law, back to police raiding gay bars and beating and arresting gays. Annulment of all gay marriages and no more gay marriages.

And bigotry? I can also see new campaign slogans: "We don't want segregation. We want slavery."

Yes, folks, go out on election day and vote for Trump - and all this can be yours . . .
