Trump is only a 'Teflon Don' to a reasonably large (but not large enough!) group of supporters who would vote for him no matter the craziness of his speech, his lies, and his simplistic policies. These folks are not for turning: as Donald said early on " ... I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters ... ". Clinton referred to this group as 'The Deplorables' the other day, and although she has taken lots of flack for that, it does not mean it's not the truth. Trump does indeed pander to the very lowest common denominator imaginable of the American electorate.

However thank god for the Electoral College, where, by all the analysis I have seen puts her much closer to the magic 270 than Trump.
Frankly, I wish the Democratic Party ~ in hindsight ~ had of nominated a different candidate. But it was too late: Trump has turned out to be a despicable and ignorant human being of huge proportion and deserves to be beaten by a landslide. But the hoped-for Landslide has long left the stable, probably never to be seen. This is the election of the Tweets, as horrifying as that is.
This election will come down to depending on the gullibility ~ or not ~ of the American electorate who are NOT part of The Deplorables ... and that's very worrying, because gullibility ~ and now The Tweets ~ is unfortunately woven into the American Way.
