Today I received an email from a friend of mine who lives in the United States.
This fellow is recently retired and will be coming to Thailand this December for a few months to get a look at the lay of the land, and to make decisions as to whether he'd like to make his next move to be semi-permanent. (And no, he's not leaving the country because of Trump).
This is part of what he wrote:

Hi David,

I can help him out with many suggestions, but as most folks on these boards know by now, I am pretty well tied at the hip with the man I love and have hardly any knowledge regarding this quite specific query ... thus have no answer for this part of his email.
