Will The Umbrellas Be Closing Along Beach Road?
by Albert Jack
20 July, 2016
Umbrella and beach chair vendors, along Beach Road, Pattaya, have been complaining that business is looking bleak this year.
On July 19, Pattaya One reporters went on location at Pattaya beaches, stretching from the north to the south, and found business wasn’t at all as it should be.
One vendor, sixty-five year old Mrs Yindee, says that the long weekend holiday trade is not comparing to last year during the same period. She complained that she is only earning around 1000 baht a day now and on that particular day had only two customers.
Displaying a canny understanding of her business model she put the blame squarely at the feet of city officials and their decision to widen Beach Road and carry out landscaping work, removing car parking facilities in the process.
However, that work was carried out in 2013 and will have nothing to do with why beach-lovers are down in number between this year and last.
She might have mentioned that years of constant overcharging, ladyboy muggings, raw sewage in the seawater, baht bus overcharging, police harassment & jet ski scams could have something to do with the reason tourist numbers are so far down this year. (further suggestions below please)
Meanwhile Mrs Yindee insists that the creation of more parking and the installation of a public bathroom will see the visitors flocking back next year.

Pattaya beach deckchairs , hmmm let me think , chair price doubled from 20 to 40 baht , plate of fried rice cost 150b, coconut 50b, constant stream of annoying beggars & tourist trat vendors , filthy black & trash polluted water , strewn litter from disposable thai takeaway food containers , broken glass & empty thai beer/whiskey bottles , plastic trash , sand littered with cigarette butts , bottle tops , plague rat infestation , piles of uncollected rotting trash on the promenade , stinking stagnant road drainage (walking st to pattaya land2) unsightly mothballed beach reclamation works site (walking st - pattaya land2) , promenade congestion from sprawling deck chair/boat tour/parasail touts and souvenir photo plate vendors selling to Chinese , uneven poorly repaired promanade , piles of broken rubble , takeaway thai drink containers dangling ornamentally from trees , marijuana touts , embedded bottle top/cigarette butt trash & drink containers casually left everywhere by the locals on promenade , aggressive thieving scum men in frocks...... but ya gotta luv it eh, I have been here 21 years - nothing has changed .... short term grab the $ & run is all the locals ever will think about ...the internet has enlightened some , but there is still one born every minute.
oh , I forgot to add , inconsiderate kamikaze drivers hurtling high speed down beach road on a mission to show just how important they are to the inferior falang attempting to negotiate safe passage across beach road
now why did I comment anonymously ? the locals shoot the messengers of truth.
