I do not. I am on my own when in Thailand. Only interact with Thai guys.

In beer bars I sit on my own and wait (or wave) for a boy to join me. In go go bars I sit alone watching. I think most Farang who I see together on the same table in beer bars, are I think old friends, travelling together to Thailand. But of course, some maybe are complete strangers to each other, who decided to sit on the same table and have a chat.

But if then a cute boy joins this group of Farang in that beer bar, and who is liked by all in the group, how is the decision made who can off him? Is then a small auction organized among the Farang? :D
The highest bidder gets him? (I am of course not serious; but there is a possibility of competition and friction here)

Compared with that, I have it easy. I sit alone and if I want the boy I am chatting with, I can have him (because he sits with me and not with a group, so it is clear who his apparent customer will be).

The farang who asks a boy to sit with him is the decision maker. No auction! And no poaching of another's boy among friends.

There are plenty of lonely old farangs who always sit alone. Amazingly, there's plenty of time to sit with fellow farangs and
plenty of time to persue boys.
As windwalker stated, many times, Thais sit as well and there's never any competition or an auction. Of course, it
takes time and effort to make farang friends and frankly there are many wacko farang here with difficult personalities.
Thaifarang probably knows himself well and is better off as a lone wolf..

I have always been on my own a lot. I am not the socializing type. I don't mind the occasional chat with another Farang if it were to happen.

But isn't it true that most Farang who we see together in Pattaya, do not travel alone to Thailand? They are there with a group of friends? Does it really happen often two complete strangers go sit next to each other in a beer bar and chat? Because when I observe them it looks they know each other from before. That it are old friends. That is why I always got the idea it are friends travelling together (or travelling alone, but agreeing to be in Pattaya on the same dates and then go together on the bar rounds).

Why am I not so socializing? Because I am very bad in small talk.

Unlike you, most people I know are social and do enjoy chatting with each other. Many you see are not traveling at all, but live here. Quite often, travelers contact people from these boards and express an interest in meeting. Also, many farang have been coming to Thailand for years when they have a holiday. If you go to the same places often enough and have common interest with other people, you meet people. Apparently, meeting people is not your interest.

If you prefer to be a loner, that is your choice, but I can see you have a lot to learn about Thailand, meeting boys, knowing what to do and how to do it, erroneous preconceptions about farang, etc. You may not be interested in making friends with us, but you obviously could do well to benefit from our advice and experience.

It is often my choice to spend some time alone. Each evening, as my boyfriend spends his hour or two under the shower, I sit alone, nursing a Singha, watching Boyztown come to life. I wouldn't admit it to him but, sometimes I consider this hour of reflection, anticipating the evening ahead to be the highlight of the day....or one of the highlights.
Of course, I miss the activity and bustle that Boyztown offered fifteen plus years ago, when the gogo boys would start arriving at about 20.00 and often interact with the falangs on the terraces and at Panorama or Cocobanana, as it was then. But even now, there is often an amusing scene involving the waiters from Serene and Oscars, or the masseurs. These moments can be savoured when you are alone.

It can be lonely, traveling solo or just dining alone every night. Gaybutton is well known for extending the hand of friendship
(No, not the iron fist) and has introduced many older gay first timers to Pattaya.
All it takes is connecting with one farang and then he introduces one to his circle of farang friends.
Just have to watch out for the barflies, unless that's your sort of thing. Let people know if you're a cigarette smoker too,
as it turns off some including myself.
I can several PMs from posters inquiring if I'll be here when they arrive. Usually they offer to buy me drink and some even
dinner.
If one speaks English as a second language there are German speakers who post here as well.
One has to be careful of overly friendly farangs who become your best friend in no time. Often, they're looking to
set you up for a big loan until their condo sale closes or some yarn about the police shaking them down.
Of course, one has to take a chance and reach out to a stranger but sometimes friendships evolve and sometimes not.
It's all up to you.

Don't put yourself down! I know of others who speak little and remain quiet but they are not boring. On other hand there are those who can't shut up and are insufferable bores.

Of all the people I know in Thailand, none of them travel together to come here. Some may know others from their home company but most often meet people while here. People will judge you by your actions not just by your speech. Being generous and kind to the Thais is a big plus in the eyes of other farang. And, as Catawumpus mentioned, many of us are non-smokers so smoking would be a turnoff in many cases.
