I agree completely with that but I need to add mornings. Nothing better then waking up , sun shining on the water and in 5 minutes able to find a willing companion on whatever app. Bars can only compete for about 4 hours out of the day. No wonder they are having such a tough time.

I think it's a combination of two factors: Firstly, a broader change that can also be felt elsewhere (e.g. Pattaya's two other gay prostitution zones and Soi Twilight in Bangkok), gay visitors in search for P4P simply have more options now (most notably, the apps). Secondly, the question is why Sunee Plaza has been suffering more than the other areas, and I think it's because Sunee Plaza used to attract the child molesters and this has been common knowledge. So from today's point of view, the kiddie fiddlers aren't catered to anymore (here's hoping!), so they stay away which by itself brings the number of customers down. And others who are into boys of legal age continue to stay away, just because the foul reputation still lingers and because they're more familiar with Boyztown and/or Jomtien. To an open-minded newbie visitor, on the other hand, it doesn't help that Sunee Plaza looks like a ghost town in comparison.
Alex, I agree with your take on this.

Unfortunately, there is no economic boom in the foreseeable future that could cause Sunee to re-invert itself and become busy and profitable again, thus I believe a continuing decline is inevitable. Considering the consistent influx of tourists from the middle-east who now surround Sunee Plaza one could expect that Sunee will, one day, transition into guest houses and restaurants catering to these tourists. Hopefully the gay venues in Boyztown and Jomtien will be able to withstand pressure from the governement, (whoever that happens to be as time moves forward), in order to keep their signs up. In-the-mean-time, the apps you referred to will almost assuredly continue to grow in popularity.

I for one will miss Sunee terribly when that day comes, but it doesn't take a genius to see where things are headed. This high season was as low as the lowest of low seasons in the past 10 years which just about wraps it up. The Thai police, sponsored by the military junta, are now arresting and/or fining guys under the age of 21 for drinking a beer in a bar which is another significant indication of things to come IMO. This of course has always been the law - but like many laws in Thailand, never enforced. There was one bar owner in Sunee Plaza who got fined 70,000 baht in December for this infraction which I think will perpetuate the decline in business even further.

All things change.

But didn´t the former owner of Sunny boys abandoned the bar because of some sort of personal problems? From what I´ve understood by reading on the boards?
I can´t belive that the bar wasn´t economically successful under his management. Every time I was there it was full of boys and customers, off´s taking place all the time. So didn´t he proove that it is possible to establish and run a successfull bar in Sunnee? But as soon he disappeared and some abscent thai woman was in charge, the bar deteriorated. So I think it´s more about bar management than supposedly lack of tourists in Pattaya/Sunnee. I agree completely with Gaybutton that bar owners need to understand that people want to go to a bar that is fun, which Sunny boys was before.

Don't fret about Sunee Plaza.
Badboybilly posting on the new gaythailand forum that he's in the process of buying Allofme and will buy most
of the rest of the Sunee boy bars and convert them into rimming bars, blowjob bars etc. He predicts the demise
of older gay farangs, which will lead to the rejuvenation of Sunee.
Like Trump in the USA, bbb is dominating brucenyc's new forum as well as many of the former bitchboard members.
so, fear not about Sunee, salvation is near.

Whether that, or something else was the reason, I don't think it is appropriate to discuss it on this board. The fact is he is no longer a part of the Sunee Plaza bar scene. I suggest letting that suffice.

Why isn't it appropriate, if I may ask, because of the particular circumstances of his departure or in general? There might be a lesson to be learned for other potential bar owners...
