The Great BB King passes...

Post by DeE »

"Riley B. King, the legendary guitarist known as B.B. King, whose velvety voice and staccato picking style brought blues from the margins to the mainstream, died Thursday night, his daughter said.

He was 89.

King was admitted to a Las Vegas hospital this month after suffering from dehydration, his daughter, Patty King said. His dehydration was caused by his Type II diabetes."

I had the opportunity to sit and visit with the man for a couple of hours in the early 1970s. He was as gracious while being interviewed as he was talented while playing "Lucille" onstage.

His music will live on.
A giant talent and a truly gentle man.

Great quote from BB himself:

(whilst moonlighting playing the bars and clubs) "I'd take my guitar and play on the streets. A gospel song would get me a pat on the head, but a blues would get me a dime. So you see why I stuck with the blues".
