Burger at Diecy Reilleys

Post by firecat69 »

Deicy Reilleys is in front of the Marriott on Pattaya 2 Rd. It used to be another Irish Bar whose name escapes me.

At any rate I felt like a Burger and thought I read somewhere that they had good ones.

A very Broad menu but I wanted a Burger so I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and even got them to substitute a small number of onion rings in place of FF.

The burger was excellent . A nice light toasted roll , nice thick burger with cheddar cheese and I guess Irish Bacon ,lettuce and tomato. It was served on a plate with some Mayonaise and Ketchup and cole slaw. The onion rings were hand cut and some of the best I have had in Thailand although a little greasy which you have to expect.

This burger was 265 baht which for the quality and the nice surrounding I figure is quite fair. Especially since I spent 245 at Burger King 2 weeks ago for a burger 1/2 the size and quality. Of course it did include a soda.

Of course I missed by a night because Mondays are burger nights and they are 99 baht which would be like stealing. Tuesday was Pizza or Pasta for 99 baht and I saw a number of people with a good looking pizza for 99 baht which again is like stealing.

They have specials every night but these two appear to be the biggest value. Nice atmosphere and good service and the price is complete.

Sunday is Carvery day with 3 meats etc etc for 299 baht complete which I am pretty sure is the cheapest I have ever seen it.

Can't wait to try the Firehouse in BKK

Shenanigans. Now there is a Shenanigans in The Avenue in Pattaya and another one in Jomtien.

Thanks firecat. We had the 99b. pizza and it was as good as any I've eaten in Pattaya and a real bargain..
One additional feature is there is a live band consisting of two Philippine ladies and one man. Starts at 8pm.
Also note the specials are available all day, so also a lunch option. Its a straight crowd with sports on the TVs.
Am looking forward to checking out the hamburgers.
There are other specials on Wednesdays and Thurs. Mexican food on Thursday and also a steak night.
Great a/c and a big beautiful room.. Thanks again to firecat..

80 baht for water! A bottle of water that's 7 baht at 7-Eleven is 80 baht! Eighty baht.

The burger was not good. No beef flavor whatsoever. Way overcooked beef, undercooked bacon. The French fries were terrible. Terrible. They reminded me of the ones my mother used to buy in a frozen package and re-heat in the oven. I love French fries and I cannot remember the last time I didn't finish my plate. The onion rings were freshly made and they were pretty good, but the mayonnaise they served with them was poor quality.

We won't be going back.

Did I mention the water was 80 baht?

Ridiculous to complain about paying 80 baht for water when I am sure you have paid 4x as much in a GoGo Bar in Bangkok and 2x as much in every GoGo Bar in Pattaya. After all you were not in some shop house with 90 degree temps and dirty surroundings. You have to pay for nice surroundings. I agree it is a bit much but not out of line for any other restaurant with a $1,000,000 invested.

That the Burger was not to your taste , it happens . Since you posted this on a Saturday, I assume you paid full price and not 99 baht . At any rate others have found it good value and unfortunately all Pattaya restaurants exhibit some inconsistencies . Believe me there are some restaurants that have been positively reviewed here that I thought were terrible.

Different strokes for different folks. I still have people tell me how good Manhatten's is and I think it is a joke when it comes to what it charges for mediocre beef.
I bet their water is more then 80 baht??

I have never before paid 80 baht for water. When I complained about the price of water the farang guy said the price is high because they use water that comes in bottles that are made from plants and they were expensive. I didn't realize that when I order a beverage I am paying for the container it comes in. Ridiculous! I don't go to go go bars, but the price of drinks in go go bars cannot be compared to restaurant prices. In go go bars you are paying for the "entertainment".

I found the burger OK, nothing to rave about. As has been said the fries were horrible. I found the onion rings tasted OK, except they were very greasy. The aioli served with them had no garlic taste at all. I would hardly mention Manhattan's and Diecy's in the same paragraph. I would not go back to Diecy's either.

I think the price of water is a valid complaint for a restaurant. It just shows they really don't care about their customers, but are only interesting in squeezing as much profit from them as possible. Of course we've all paid more at go-go bars, but that's not really a valid comparison.

I agree that Manhattans food is way over priced and highly overrated. Actually though the water there was free when they first opened (they even gave you a choice of still or sparking!). I'll bet though you can now purchase a bottle for less than 80 baht. In fact, I'll bet there is not a single other restaurant in Pattaya that charges 80 baht for a small domestic water.

Nevertheless, my principal complaint was with the food and perhaps I should have emphasized that above the water price.

I guess what I would love to have are those who did not think the Burger was good or only average, please share where you are getting what you see as a great Burger.

Because the point is that many like to find a good Burger and it is apparently not as easy as it would be in BKK.

I haven't tried Dicey Reilly's yet, so I can't comment. So far, for me the best hamburger I've had in Thailand was at Corner Bar when Thomas used to make them. In Pattaya, on Soi Lengkee, next to the Cartier bar and the China Garden restaurant, there is a restaurant - I believe owned by the same people who own China Garden - called Lone Star Texas Grill ( http://www.lonestarpattaya.com ). Supposedly, their hamburgers are very good, although I think between US $7 and $8 for a hamburger is pretty steep (unless, of course, they're using the ground beef knuckle that lvdkeyes recommended. Somehow, I doubt that's what they're using). That's another restaurant I've been meaning to try, but haven't yet. If their hamburgers are really all that good, I suppose it would kill me to pay their price once in awhile. Has anyone tried it?
