Ratsstube - Bangkok

Post by Gaybutton »

I just returned from a couple days in Bangkok. I always stay at the Malaysia Hotel when I can - and boys still show up in the parking lot, although the gazebo is gone. If you're looking for boys, they'll be sitting around the parking lot smoking area.

I noticed a sign for the Ratsstube restaurant, located in the Goethe Institute complex. I figured, how bad can it be when it's part of a German complex? I was not disappointed. I thought the food, service, and ambiance was excellent and very reasonably priced. The decor is beautiful, but all Thai decor. That makes sense considering the whole place is centered on German-Thai friendship.

I had the pea soup and the sauerbraten. I thought both were excellent. Between the food, water, and service charge, my bill came to 440 baht and I thought it was well worth it and the portions are plenty to eat. This is one restaurant I'll be returning to when I'm in Bangkok.

It's within easy walking distance of the Malaysia Hotel, the Pinnacle Hotel, the Ibis Hotel, and the Babylon sauna if you're staying in the Sathorn area. If you're walking from the Malaysia Hotel, walk toward the Pinnacle and Rama IV Road. About halfway to the Pinnacle you'll come to a soi on the left. Go down that soi. As you walk down the soi it will curve to the left. You'll see the Goethe Institute on the right and the restaurant is in the complex.

From the Malaysia Hotel you can also walk toward the Babylon sauna and you'll see a sign for the Goethe Institute. Just go down that soi. Either way, it's about a 5 minute walk from the Malaysia or the Pinnacle.
