The place is well air conditioned and big enough to find a table where smoke is not a problem unless you happen to be there at a busy time.

Anyways I can understand the aversion to smoke but if you can be there when smoke is not a problem then the food is soooo worth it!!!

There are only about six tables (I didn't count them), so if someone is smoking anywhere in the place the smell is a problem.

How can I be guaranteed that if I go there and order food that there won't be some smokers come and sit at the next table and light up?

Any place that wants to violate the law and allows smoking inside an air conditioned place if off my list of places to eat, no matter how good the food is.

Your prerogative . Mine is the food is worth it if there are not a lot of customers smoking and if there are then I or anyone else can choose any of hundreds of other places to eat in the area where the food won't be as good and in at least 40% of the cases someone will be smoking.

I confess I'm a smoker and, like most, go outside to have a cigarette if there are other customers present. It is really rare to find people smoking there - although it is permitted.

Getting back to the food, let me put in a plug for their New England Clam Chowder. Truthfully, I've enjoyed it more than any I ever had in Cape Cod. Delicious, plentiful, and a bargain price.

They have the best French onion soup I've had anywhere in town too. Very flavorful, a big chunk of bread, the entire top of the bowl covered in melted cheese, and served piping hot.

Firecat, did you try their Reuben? I know it isn't New York, but I'd be interested to know your opinion of how theirs compares to Deli-zza.

I was tempted to try their pastrami but am so tired of being disappointed, I did not. Maybe next time?

RMPM was always one of my favorites. They are a bit hard to get to, allow smoking inside, and can get VERY loud if they have a group of drinkers. On one of our dinners there one of the group complained about the noise and smoke and the owner told him there were plenty of other quieter smoke free places he could go to, the door out was behind him. I do not think that guest will be returning often. Smoke and loud do not bother me much, so I did return often. The corned beef Reuben was not the same as many delis in the states, but was the best value for one in Pattaya, IMHO.

For those of you who are Rich Man-Poor Man fans, we ate there this evening (April 7). Eddie, the owner, told us starting as of now he will be closing at 5:00pm on Tuesdays throughout the low season.

Until notified differently, Tuesdays are the wrong days to plan on dinner at Rich Man-Poor Man.

Along with the regular menu, Rich Man-Poor Man has also introduced Monday and Tuesday night specials. The specials menu does change weekly. The menu below is for September 17 and 18, 2012, but you'll get the idea:

MONDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT SPECIAL

Tonight your dinner includes:
Cream of Mushroom soup *or* Turkey Vegetable soup *or* Salad

This week's entrees include:
Spaghetti with meatballs or sausage - with Richman marinara sauce and garlic bread

Salisbury steak - with mushroom gravy, French fried potato and vegetable

You'll be glad to know Eddie (the owner) is trying to acquire an outside seating area for us smokers. He knows his smoking policy deters many non-smokers and is trying to do something about it. I'm a smoker, but like many of you, my boyfriend refuses to eat there because he claims it makes his clothes smell. I guess those of us who smoke can't smell other people's cigarettes, but I've never noticed the second hand smoke because they have a really good air conditioning system that seems (to me) to clean the air pretty good.

You are right when you say that smokers can't smell other's smoke, but as a long time reformed smoker I can attest to the fact that we non smokers can smell it. I can pass a smoker on the street who may not even be smoking at the time and if I am close enough I can tell they are smokers. The A/C at RMPM does not eliminate the putrid smell.
