Re: Bar Reports

Post by Dodger »

Back in-the-day, Monty opened a bar intended to replicate a boy gogo bar in Jomtien Complex that was packed with customers every night.

I use the term "replicate" because Monty knew that opening a full-fledged gogo in the Complex would cost him too much tea money, so he took a more subtle (and crafty) approach.

The single-stall bar he opened had a small platform setup in the rear of the bar for small shows...mostly young ladyboy's lip singing, and another small platform setup along one wall in the center of the bar for dancing boys. The stage only held 3 or 4 boys at a time, but sufficed in keeping the customers more than happy due to his skill at recruiting HOT numbers.

After about 2 years Monty closed the bar due to health concerns.

Having witnessed this, as I know Undaunted and others that are still around did as well, there's no doubt, in my mind anyway, that if someone was crafty enough to open a small gogo in the complex following the same model that Monty created it would draw customers.

As a side note: If you read all the previous responses to this post you'll see the word "Cost" mentioned more than any other word, which I believe has a lot to do with the decline of the traditional boy gogo bars.

I don't for-a-minute believe that farang punters started avoiding the gogo's because they were getting tired of the entertainment. The quality of the entertainment only started to decline after the money stopped flowing. No big mystery there. Customers stopped going to the boy gogo bars because finding short-time sex on the apps was/is so much cheaper. Thus the reason the word "Cost" is amplified so much every time this topic surfaces.

I can hear Monty now..."No Money - No Honey".

Monty was certainly a unique character and Pattaya gay scene icon. At his Jomtien Complex bar he also served fast food. For me, his hamburgers were second only to Thomas's at Corner Bar (and Thomas used to make the best onion rings I ever ate). If anyone ever opens a venue similar to Monty's format, I would certainly be there giving it a try.

Someone else, an American as I recall, opened a semi-go go bar in the complex called Rock Hard - a takeoff on the Hard Rock Hotel. He too had a small stage in the back, separated by a closed curtain, making it invisible from the street. I don't remember ever seeing more than 3 or 4 go go boys there and his stage had room for only 1 or 2 at a time. The bar, however, didn't last very long - I think less than a year. I never knew whether he simply decided to close it or whether he was having problems with the police, but for whatever reason it closed and he disappeared.

I still believe we just can't know how a go go bar would fare in the complex unless someone opens one and tries it. A Sunee Plaza type go go bar in the complex can't open due to the current regulations, but perhaps a Monty or Rock Hard style bar could get away with it if anyone ever decides to try it. I admit I don't think the odds for success are very favorable, but no way to be sure unless it is tried. And if someone ever does, I would be there to see for myself.

Additionally:
1 Via apps, we can find a boy at any time of day, rather than waiting for the gogo bars to open.
2 I find I have more fun with boys met on the apps or in host bars.
3 Then, when it costs over 1000 for 2 drinks & an off from a gogo bar, what value are we getting for that incremental expenditure ?

I agree the decline in gogo bars came after the customers stopped going.
As for entertainment, well we usually get boys on stage in underwear. I have far more interest in that if looking for one to off. If going in there just for a look, the novelty wears off very fast.

Finally, I think I now prefer host bars to gogo bars. We get to spend more time talking to the boys, rather than looking at their legs on a raised stage.

In the gogo bars, I dread to think of the number of times I've dismissed nice boys due to "too much hair on the lower leg".
Whilst the lower legs are in the line of sight in a gogo bar, they are well out of it when in bed. So it doesn't matter.
And for the type of boy I go after, any body hair is usually confined to the lower legs.

Exactly. Deep down, we know it is unlikely to work. Which is why none of us are putting up our own money to open one.

If I remember correctly they had very skimpy boxer shorts on or they had it rolled up to look like panties. After a while it all looks the same to me. 😅
