Low season in Pattaya
Low season in Pattaya
Does low season in Pattaya start immediately after Songkran? I guess what I'm asking is will the boys still be around from the 20th of April onwards. It used to be that they would go back to their villages to work on the farms during the low season but I can't remember when exactly.

"Official" low season in Thailand is May-October. That doesn't mean it always works out that way. This year the fuel prices and availability, along with the unusually high temperatures may be factors as to the numbers of boys from other provinces in Pattaya during low season.
Only one way to find out . . .

I thought there were enough boys last summer. Unless you want specific boys who only work the high season, I don't think it's a problem.

Also I think people need to understand the idea that they all return to the rice farm is a stereotype. While many probably do come from rice farms, many don't. They and their families might not have anything to do with farms at all.
How many boys will be available this year? As I said, only one way to find out. And don't forget, the bars are far from the only way to find and meet available boys. Many of the best boys I have ever met never had anything to do with working in the bars.
In my opinion I would say there is no reason to avoid going to Pattaya or anywhere else in Thailand during low season for fear there will not be enough willing young gents. Drop that notion. Finding boys you like will be the least of your problems. I can't imagine anyone ending up disappointed.

Agreed. It's been some years since a boy I meet admitted to a farming connection.
Some of them might come and go for visa stamps or a holiday, but I'm not aware of any of them going home for harvesting or anything. Besides,as far as I can see, rice harvesting is done by those machines from Kubota, where the terrain is suitable. Even in poorer countries like Cambodia.
I also have difficulty with the perception that farm boys will be poor.
From my UK school year, one farm boy set up a tech company that was sold for about $150million & he owned a very healthy percentage of that. And there's another one who appears to be doing better than that from the accounts. They're not the only millionaires either.
Of course Thailand will be different, but an upbringing on a farm with a "can do" attitude is still likely to be a better grounding than the average person gets.
