Here we go again - Sukhumvit to be torn up

Post by Gaybutton »

At least this time they're going to wait until after Songkran in late April. According to the article most of the work will be taking place between Central Road (Pattaya Klang) to Na Kluea - way past the hospital. A lot of work has been constantly going on in that area for quite some time anyway. I can't even remember a time when no road work along Sukhumvit wasn't taking place. But don't worry. Even after they finish it won't be long until they're out there tearing it up again - as always.

Do they actually think they are going to be able to avoid traffic disruptions? Please allow me 15 minutes to finish having my little laugh.

The article says the work is scheduled for 200 days. Whenever they publish schedules for finishing work, can any of you think of a time when they actually did finish on schedule? And when they do finish the work, if ever, how long do you think it will be before more of Pattaya's roads will be torn up - yet again? Why is it they never seem to do road work where it is truly needed?

You gents who won't be in Pattaya during low season get to miss all the fun . . .

Pattaya City Prepares to Resurface Sukhumvit Road with a Budget of Over 21 Million Baht, Work to Start After Pattaya Songkran Festival to Avoid Traffic Disruptions

Pattaya City Mayor Poramese Nampichet, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Manoch Nongyai, Pattaya City Council members, officials from the Pattaya City Engineering Department, and relevant agencies, conducted an on-site inspection this week along Sukhumvit Road near the entrance to Phothisarn Soi to monitor progress on the Sukhumvit–Pattaya Road resurfacing project, Phase 2.

The project covers the section from the Na Kluea Intersection to the Pattaya Klang Intersection, specifically focusing on the western side of the road (the side toward Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital).

Mayor Poramese revealed to The Pattaya News team that the initiative has a budget of 21.866 million baht (21,866,000 baht). It targets an area of 26,500 square meters along more than 4 kilometers of roadway. The resurfacing will employ a recycling method, which involves milling out the existing pavement and overlaying it with 8-centimeter-thick asphalt.

The construction period is set at 200 days. The contractor, Suwalee Company Limited, has already been selected and is currently in the process of signing the contract.

To minimize traffic disruptions for residents and visitors, work is scheduled to begin only after the conclusion of the Pattaya Songkran Festival (known locally as “Wan Lai” or Water Festival), after April 20th. City officials are developing a detailed traffic management plan to reduce inconvenience as much as possible while facilitating smooth construction. This phased approach may extend the actual timeline beyond the original contract period.

Upon completion, the resurfaced road is expected to significantly improve driving comfort, road safety, and overall travel conditions for both locals and tourists in this busy Pattaya corridor.
