One boy I know is going home for almost 2 weeks. I thought he must be doing OK if he can skip high season, but it's a family event.
All the buses and trains were booked up, so he's ended up with some obscure flight and is trying to figure out transport for the remainder of the flight.

Re: Boys
quote from Jun "Boy: They have farang or family looking after them."
Certainly not family looking after the boy, else he would not be in a bar. The opposite, the boy is supposed to send money back to family.
quote from Dodger "This is a great Christmas gift idea if someone has a boy they really like who doesn't have a phone."
If a boy doesn't have a phone, that means he can't hold onto a phone and the one you buy him will be gone soon.
I have seen homeless with smart phones and power banks.

The boy has a phone, however the screen has multiple cracks after he was allegedly attacked. Probably after excessive alcohol consumption.christianpfc wrote: ↑Fri Dec 26, 2025 6:37 pm quote from Dodger "This is a great Christmas gift idea if someone has a boy they really like who doesn't have a phone."

To some extent, he tries to look after it, with a screen protector and a plactic case. Yet he still doesn't keep it secure in the way I would.
He's in no hurry at all to replace it. The phone has been like that for 2 months. I have mentioned that it's easier to transfer everything across to a new phone when the old one is still working.
And do the maths. I've offered to pay half. All he wants is a 3000 baht phone, so he just needs to find the other 1500.
Which is in the range of a short time tip.
I suspect using a smashed up phone fits the image that some Cambodians like to present.

Re: Boys
Re cracked screen. I have seen cracked screens many times (friends and in public transport).
Thais have a knack for dropping phones. I dropped a phone once, in 2002.

Re: Boys
My friend turned on the charm and asked me to buy him a 3000 baht phone. He has no obvious ambition to own anything expensive.
I agreed and suggested 3~4000 baht. I'm not buying him a phone with 4 GB of RAM, if 8 GB is available for a reasonable price.
The next morning, he messages me and we agree a meeting time of 3:30pm.
I did not hear from him again until 9:00pm.
It seems he was up all night and messaged me when still inebriated in the morning. He then slept the rest of the day.
Anyone who lacks the aptitude to show up and collect a free phone is probably not going to get very far in life.
Being charming is not sufficient to succeed.

Re: Boys
Are you still going to give him the phone? If it were me, he had his chance and blew it to instead get so drunk he had to sleep all day. For me, end of phone and end of that boy when there are so many more available.
Re: Boys
He can wait a while.
He knows he fouled up and hasn't raised the subject of a new appointment so far.
As for other boys, well, not all are such good company.
Re: Boys
Two of the boys I know have been flying business class, both outside the SE Asian region. Well done to them for finding some high spending customers.
I'm sure it would make far more sense to fly economy and put the remaining money in the bank. But perhaps that offer wasn't on the table and in any case, isn't quite the same experience.

Boys: A rant
A Cambodian friend recently threw his toys out of the pram and directed a prolonged rant at the bar tender.
To be fair, the bar tender is a waste of space. He hides down behind the bar, out of sight. All he appears to do is the accounting. The other boys get the drinks and deliver them to customers. He is cute and has a nice smile, but rarely puts that on show.
I have kept these opinions to myself.
Still, my Cambodian friend could benefit from some anger management. With the aid of google translate, I explained that everywhere you work, there will be some useless people. Just do your own job and remember you are earning more than he is.
I forgot to explain that if you're running the business, you fire the useless people. However, I doubt he's going to be troubled by such responsibility any time soon.

Re: Boys
One boy I used to see has posted IG photos of him flying off to Europe. In the most expensive seats, along with the farang who I presume is paying for this.
The real surprise is a photo of a Thai passport.
I understood he was from Laos & as he has always looked quite young, I definitely would have checked his ID for the first meeting. Besides, earlier posts show a Lao passport.
This looks like a real flight, rather than one of those scrap planes parked up & re-purposed as a cafe.
Another Lao boy I know flew to Europe in business class earlier in the year.
