Apple claims they don’t get viruses in their devices. I find that hard to believe.

Viruses can and do spread between any devices that are hooked up to WIFI. That includes Apple.

If you do internet and/or mobile banking using your smartphone you want to make sure your device has good anti-virus protection including advanced malware tracking, and change your passwords frequently. I think you already found this out.

What antivirus protection do you use?

I find I’m rarely using passwords now. Most of my accounts use my beautiful face as recognition. Or some I use a pass key. Both instantaneous.

I did enjoy making long complex passwords for my financial accounts, but I really don’t use them. I brought them with me and coded them so if a boy found them they wouldn’t figure them out.

I think Jun might be onto something. Using the apps etc. instead of walking into a bank. I’m thinking of getting rid of my newspaper subscription and maybe getting the news online now. Maybe get a smart television instead of my rather bulky 1985 zenith television which also masquerades as a piece of furniture in my living room. When something goes wrong with it, hauling it to the tv repair store in the back of a truck is quite a burden. I might also bring my typewriters to the pawn shop and see what I can get for them.

Over the last 20 years I have used either Avast, Avira, AVG or Microsoft Defender. All free.
I've usually change when suspecting the anti-virus is slowing the PC down (either correctly or incorrectly).
I currently use Defender.

Only once in my life have I knowingly had a virus and that was during the only year of my life that I subscribed to an anti-virus (Symantec, about 20 years ago).
Avast, AVG & Symantec are all the same company now.

I suspect you're winding us up.
About 10 years ago, I upgraded my 32" Toshiba LCD to a Samsung 40" TV, as I wanted 1080p.
I'm now trying to sell the Toshiba on ebay, cheaply. There are no takers. I suspect no one wants 720p now & if you look into it, the newer LCD TVs use so much less electricity that for anyone who would use it regularly, it would work out cheaper to buy a new TV.

Banking apps are very useful.

Yeah I’m joking about the newspaper and tv. I have a 65” Sony smart tv I love. But now they have good quality 85” tvs. They have a 100 “ tv, but it’s a TCL which has a poor picture quality.

It’s very difficult to sell used tvs. Many sit there in pawn shops. I did get a nice large screen tv at the Collinswood auction house in pattaya. TV’s like cameras and other electronics get outdated quickly.

I have occasionally seen a smart TV in hotels. I even turned one of them on when confined to a hotel for quarantine.

Banking apps are FAR more useful.

What antivirus protection do you use?

My partner Jai and I both use recent versions of Norton for our PC's and smartphones. No need for supplemental anti-malware tracking, as Norton does it all. Ranked as one of the best in the world. I did a lot of work for the U.S. Dept. of Defense in my previous life and Norton was mandatory on ALL devices due to the high level of security it provides.

We ONLY make financial transactions on our PCs using our own WIFI.

Just so you know; Doing money transfers on a smartphone using a public WIFI is asking for trouble.

The topic is Bank Chaos, so I'd like to comment on management of the chaos. This kind of topic that isn't just idle chat, as if it affects any of us, we'd better be prepared to deal with it.

Now how would anyone outside of Thailand know if their bank account is affected by such chaos, if they don't have online banking or use an ATM card ?

Without that, one could be trying to transfer money to an account that was frozen months ago.
And after been frozen for months, what might happen to the account ?

When there is potential for chaos, I prefer to have the means to monitor that.

Your comments make a good point and are entirely appropriate to the topic. People living in foreign countries, holding Thai bank accounts, going to Thailand for a holiday, and then finding out the hard way their accounts have been frozen, now that could be major chaos.

And that problem could occur at any of the various Thai banks. As far as I know, still the only board member who had a bank account frozen was SP55. Hopefully the odds are greatly in everybody's favor that it won't happen to them. At least the banks seem to have gotten much better lately at deciding which accounts to freeze.
