Road construction forever

Post by Gaybutton »

Anyone spending time in Pattaya, especially repeat visitors, probably cannot help but notice the constant road construction and repair work going on. And when I say going on, I mean going on for years. I don't even remember a single day without it. And then, once individual jobs are finished, it usually turns out the work was shoddy and the very same areas get dug up and re-done - and that work is just as shoddy.

And let's not forget how often work sites are poorly barriered and lit, which has caused far too many nighttime accidents, especially motorbike accidents, when the driver did not see the work site and crashed right into it - motorbikes destroyed, drivers severely injured and sometimes killed. Providing adequate lighting and barriers - even that is shoddy.

The article might make it seem like it all happens in Jomtien. Not the case. It goes on all over town, including "The Dark Side".

According to the article: "They are calling for transparency regarding the project’s timeline and a renewed commitment to resolving the ongoing disruptions." Good luck with that one. And if anyone actually believes what they're told about any timelines, please look up the word "gullible" in the dictionary . . .

Ongoing Road Construction Frustrates Residents in Jomtien

Jomtien, Thailand – Local residents near Threppasit Soi 7 and 9, extending to Jomtien Second Road, are voicing mounting frustration over what they describe as “never-ending” road construction. The drainage and road projects, which began approximately four years ago, remain incomplete, leaving the community grappling with significant disruptions.

According to anonymous residents, the construction has led to deteriorating conditions, particularly along a temporary road off Soi 17, which they describe as muddy and littered with trash. The presence of stray dogs in the area has further complicated pedestrian access, making daily routines challenging as many described fear of the dogs hindering walking. Compounding the issue, recent developments have severed access from Thepprasit, with Soi 7 in Jomtien also dug up. Residents now face a 4km detour through the sports park or must navigate a hazardous mud road, creating significant inconvenience for drivers and pedestrians alike.

Condo tenants in the area report feeling neglected, noting that their repeated complaints to city officials and relevant agencies have allegedly yielded little progress. They argue that less visible areas like theirs receive inadequate attention compared to high-profile locations such as Jomtien Beach or the Eastern Sports Stadium. “We understand the project is important, but we need clear communication and timelines on when this will be finished,” one resident said.

The concerned citizens are urging officials to prioritize the completion of the project and engage with the community to address their grievances. They are calling for transparency regarding the project’s timeline and a renewed commitment to resolving the ongoing disruptions.

Re: Road construction forever

The majority of road construction projects in Thailand are awarded to construction company's (or crews) based totally on the corruption that drives everything else over here.

It's not uncommon to see contracts for major projects such as highways, bridges, railway, etc. awarded to companies using poorly paid immigrant workers with limited skills and/or experience, thus the reason for the constant scheduling delays and poor quality of workmanship we see over here consistently. Sometimes the end results are so astounding that they're actually humorous. We've all seen this.

This being Thailand...I've had this on my "I Get It List" for a long time. If this were anywhere else I would be confused.

P.S. When I retired I was driving a Corvette. When I moved to Thailand I went to driving a full-size pickup truck with heavy duty suspension and a roll bar. Gee...I wonder why?...
