Israel-Iran war. What are YOUR thoughts and opinions?

I think it would be interesting to see what your thoughts about this might be. If you have thoughts and opinions, feel free to express them on this topic.

The stated policy of the Iranian regime has been to destroy Israel.

According to reports, they have also been enriching uranium to a level only of use for nuclear weapons.

Iran is also backing most of the other trouble makers in the middle East.

So on this specific issue, Israel is the one country showing some leadership and dealing with a problem before it is too late. It's about time.

I agree with Jun. In my opinion Iran is a rogue country - or at least run by rogues - and only a notch above North Korea. When one country makes it clear they wish to destroy another country and spend years working on the means to do it, that's one country I want no part of. However, I doubt the majority of Iranian people are out to destroy Israel or anywhere else. I think they would prefer to just be left alone to live their lives.

Israel has every right to protect itself, especially when under threat of a nuclear attack. I believe if Iran ever manages to obtain a nuclear weapon, it wouldn't be long before they conjure up some excuse and then actually use it.

If Trump does decide to step in, while I wouldn't like it coming to that, it would be hard for me to feel he was wrong to do it. At the time of this post he has not yet made the decision. I'm not making any predictions, but I remember saying when he was first elected that sooner or later he will get the USA involved in a war.

Part of the problem in any war is far too many innocent people who have nothing to do with it and no control over it end up killed and maimed.

Here we are in 2025 and there are still wars? Will the world ever learn?

The way I see it Trump has no other choice than to enter the war.

It was his brilliant decision to walk away from the nuclear peace accords with Iran during his first term and now the hot potato has landed square on his lap. What went around - came around.

Evan if Iran is a few years away from fully developing its nuclear bombs that would occur during Trumps term in office - and this fact alone will force him to act now. Like most narcissist's and sociopaths, he is also a coward.

My guess is that Trump will continue to let Israel bomb the shit of of Irans military installations and ground support before unleashing the U.S. bombers. Joint U.S. and Israeli military plans have to be coordinated of course before the big attack which I imagine could take a few more days.

My projection is that the U.S. (and other allies) will be fully engaged by months end.

What happens afterwards is anyone's guess. But one thing's for sure. This will probably consume most of Trumps time while in office, so maybe the U.S. and the rest of the world will get a break.

It seems Trump thinks negotiations might get somewhere. With an increased threat, that's a possibility.
Although Trump has made zero progress negotiating with other rogue nations in either term. Think of North Korea. He also hasn't ended the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours, as promised during the election campaign.

I'm reading that only the US has bunker buster bombs which might be suitable for taking out that underground uranium enrichment site.
There seems little point in attacking Iran unless that site and the enriched uranium are eliminated.

So I hope the US does get involved. However, I presume Iran could move their uranium in the meantime.

Right...and let's not forget his hard-knuckled trade war negotiations with Xi which were just stellar.

This recently announced two week pause is probably coming at the request of the U.S. military for additional planning and preparation. I could be wrong, but I don't even think Trump is dumb enough to think Iran will bow to his demands. Then again, maybe he is.

Picturing Trump as the Commander and Chief leading the U.S. in a war is nothing short of a nightmare. I'm sure the other world leaders are having the same thoughts.

As predicted - the U.S. has just bombed the nuclear facilities in Iran.

I agree with the actions taken...and now hope that direct U.S military involvement can conclude soon. If Israel wants to continue the war so-be-it, but now that the nuclear threat has been eliminated, it would be their war, not anyone else's.

Hopefully the intelligence assessment of the damage done to the nuclear facilities will be gathered soon. Fingers-crossed these facilities have been totally demolished so the U.S. can bow out and the world can feel safer.

I also hope the younger generations in Iran see this as an opportunity for regime chance so they can finally be allowed to enter the modern world and close-the-book on all of that Zionist hatred that their ancestors have been force-feeding them.

I have posted Trump's brief speech both here and on the "Trump" topic.

Now my immediate questions are:

1. Did the bombing truly destroy their objectives?
2. In the wake of the bombing, is Israel still continuing to launch missiles or are they now in wait-and-see mode?
3. What happens now? How will Iran respond?
4. How are the Iranian people reacting to this?
5. If Iran continues launching missiles at Israel, launches attacks against American military and American interests, refuses to negotiate, etc., Trump has made it clear they can expect more attacks. The question is how long will Trump wait if he decides on more attacks?
6. What is the reaction in the USA? Are Americans supporting Trumps actions, opposing, or split down the middle?
7. How is the rest of the world reacting?
8. If a regime change does occur in Iran, who will be the next leader and what kind of behavior will take place?

I'll give it a shot:

1. Won't know conclusively until the U.S intelligence damage assessment is complete.
2. Israel has not stopped, nor will they unless a truce is reached through diplomatic negotiation..
3. This is the million dollar question.
4 They're scared shitless.
5. I'd give it 10 days max
6. The majority (>60%) of U.S. citizens, as well as U.S. elected officials agree with the actions taken.
7. The rest of the world is glad it's not them.
8. Another million dollar question.

Iran will probably retaliate in the short-term to prevent losing all face, but are scampering (almost panicking) right now searching for an off-ramp.

I think the handwriting is on the wall for more attacks at least planned. I would think those would be quickest if Iran attacks US military bases in the region and/or American interests, instigates such attacks, or tries to close the Straits of Hormuz - a primary petroleum shipping lane. I think if Iran even looks at Trump crosseyed, more attacks will happen, but the quickest will depend on what Iran does next.
