Police checks in Boyztown tonight (14 June)
Police were in Boyztown tonight checking for illegals. They weren't interested in Farang. One Cambodian boy I know did a runner. The boy I was with, another Cambodian, is very angry about the Thai-Cambodia border dispute and the extra restrictions being imposed on Cambodians. I'm not actually clear what those are and if this check was aimed specifically at them but he seemed to think so.

The only restriction I know about is the 7 day limit for their visas. That restriction will almost certainly be lifted once the dispute is settled.
I know no other restrictions for Cambodians in Thailand.

What time did they show up?
I have a friend who might be running when they appear in Jomtien.

It was a big police raid. Just in time for the lowest of low season when the bars are struggeling to survive, the authorities want to target the bars.
I know of several boys that got arrested and brought to soi 9. Some boys with deeper pockets have been released and some less fortunate have not and will probably get deported. I don't know if any restrictions are put on bars, but without foreign boys some of the bars in Boyztown wont have much staff.

Both lao and cambodian boys were taken away (and if there were any burnese they were surely arrested too).

It would be the same in Jomtien.
And over in Sunee, at least one bar was operating with only Thai boys due to a reluctance to pay tea money. I haven't set foot in the place for over 6 months, as the selection was nowhere near what I like.
I expect tea money keeps Jomtien going. One lad told be he had been arrested, but they let him go. I imagine that was for a fee, as his documents wouldn't have been sufficient.
In the unlikely event they had a sustained clamp down on foreign boys, I would just spend more time in Laos and Cambodia.

Sounds like something Trump would do.
At least they didn't call in the Thai Army with water cannons.

I was just in a bar in Boyztown and they said they lost three Lao boys in the raid. The Cambodian boy I was sitting with two nights ago said if he hadn't been in his street clothes and with me he would also have been targeted by the police. He said when his visa runs out he will return to Cambodia and not come back.

This is what I call a true victimless crime. Certainly they are working illegally, which puts them in Thailand illegally whether they have passport and visa or not. But the primary purpose of dealing with illegal workers is to get rid of the ones whose jobs are depriving Thais. Nowadays it is rare for Thais to want to be go-go boys, so these go-go boys are harming no one.
While these boys are definitely breaking the law, this is one time it might be good for the police to look the other way or the powers-that-be come up with some rule allowing these boys to either work in the bars without a work permit or make it easy for them to obtain permits for this kind of work.
I believe bar and sex workers, male and female, are entitled to just as much respect and support as any other job. Where would the entertainment industry be without them? That's my opinion, anyway.
