Just like every year;

June marks the beginning of the Kuwaiti summer school break and the maniacs can already be seen terrorizing the sois...including soi Yensabai which is party-central for these idiots.

I have a few expat friends who reside in Yensabai condo and hope they can stay safe.

There is such an easy answer to this problem, put the onus on the rental shops; if a foreigner is stopped and has no valid motorcycle license seize the bike till the shop pays 20,000 to get the bike back.

I would change that to say at minimum 20,000 . . .

It seems so simple to me to control this. If someone is riding the motorbike illegally and/or recklessly, along with going after the shop, take the bike away from him. I don't understand - what's the big problem about enforcement rather than letting this go on year after year? I don't see this as involving tea money. This behavior is the only reason these particular 'tourists' go to Thailand in the first place. Does anyone think they can behave like this in their home country?

How can anyone say permitting this every year is somehow good, or at least not harmful, to that all-important 'good image' of Pattaya? Does anyone disagree that the powers-that-be should put a stop to this and they have no excuse for letting this happen every year? It sure looks like it's going to be happening again this year too. And based on the way this has gone on, I'm expecting to see it happen next year and the years that follow too.

Has anyone or their immediate friends actually seen the problem so far this year? If not, where's the evidence? The Pattaya Mail certainly doesn't provide any.

As for stopping it with a 20,000 baht fine for the motorcycle shop:
1 If the Kuwaitis have valid licenses, it does not work.
2 How do you stop the brown shirts taking a cash bribe ? The whole concept of tea money relies on taking enough money, but not so much that they discourage reoffending.

Yes.

I cruised around both soi Yensabais last Thursday and saw at least a dozen Arabs (Kuwaiti's ?) bombing around on motorbikes. Same with soi VC.

Honestly, I would have been shocked if I hadn't seen any during this season.

I think they do this mostly at night. What they do during the day, I don't know - and as long as I don't have to encounter any of them, I don't want to know . . .

Definitely Kuwaitis. I has always been Kuwaitis who go to Thailand and do this. No reason to think this time it is anybody else.

Since The Pattaya Mail do make things up, it makes sense to verify the story from more reliable sources first. That has been done now.

That's unfortunate, considering the way the area has gone downhill.

I have stayed near Tuk Com for many years, but decided it's time to move further away due to the changing mix of customers.

I loved that area, especially when Sunee was in full-gear, but times change.

I'm not sure why my friends want to remain there, but to each his own I guess.

If I was still living the butterfly life I would be staying at View Talay #1 again - as I did the first 5 years of my adventures over here. Wonderful spacious rooms...Olympic sized swimming pool and outdoor fitness area...fabulous breakfasts served poolside...walking distance to Food Mart, restaurants, Jomtien Complex, the beach, etc., with song teaws running just outside the gate 24/7.

Chateau Dale next door is fabulous as well but considerably more expensive.

I too stayed in Yensabai Condo on my trips from the UK. Usually for 3 months in the winter and one month in summer. Stayed there for 18 years.

Saw the writing on the wall a few years ago and I too now stay in a View Talay condo in Jomtien.
