In my case, my Social Security benefit gets direct deposited into my Bangkok Bank account via the Bangkok Bank branch in New York. I have never had any problems about it and after reading the article I anticipate no problems now.

If I do find myself subject to any changes, I suppose I could switch over to having my benefit deposited via WISE. As for the date I receive the benefit, I don't care what day of the month I receive it, if they for whatever reason want to change it. I only care that I receive it at all.

So far, for me, nothing has changed and I have had no communications from any Social Security offices.

According to what I just read on-line (google) tododisca has a reputation for publishing false information, sensationalizing headlines, and fearmongering the elderly - many times with non-factual articles pertaining to Social Security.

I then looked at SSA News provided on my on-line account (SSA.gov) and there is not a single word mentioned about these claims made by tododisca. Note that any/all SSA changes that effect social security recipients are immediately posted on this account (SSA.gov)

My advice to anyone reading this post is to either review SSA change notifications yourself which are ALWAYS provided on your on-line account (SSA.gov) - or contact SSA by phone if you want further clarification before doing anything.

Believe me, if SSA is going to implement a change that effects 71 MILLION Social Security Recipients they won't forget to notify them.

Thank you Dodger. Yet another example of "Don't worry until there is something to worry about".

Also, in case nobody noticed, not even one word about foreigners paying Thai income tax. I think that can be crossed of anxiety lists.

Update:

tododisca claimed that a "Critical Notice" has gone out to all social security recipients informing them that they have to transfer from SSA.gov to login.gov or their benefits will be canceled which is blatantly false.

Here's the latest SSA news where they describe this change - but they have not sent out any notices yet, nor have they threatened to cancel accounts for those who fail to make this change as stated of tododisca.

Social Security Announces Upcoming Changes to Accessing Online Services

Agency Transitioning Authentication Services to Login.gov

Today the Social Security Administration announced that customers who created an online account (e.g., my Social Security account) before September 18, 2021, will soon be required to transition to a Login.gov account to continue access to their online services. Over five million of these account holders have already transitioned to Login.gov.

The agency is making the changes to simplify the sign-in experience and align with federal authentication standards while providing safe and secure access to online services.

“my Social Security is a safe and secure way for people to do business with us,” said Social Security Commissioner Martin O'Malley. "We're excited to transition to Login.gov to access our online services, streamlining the process and ease of use for the public across agencies."

Account holders are encouraged to sign-in now. When the user logs in, they will be presented with an option to easily transition to Login.gov. Once their account is successfully linked, a confirmation screen will appear, and they will have immediate access to their personal my Social Security services or other service that they were attempting to access.

Existing Login.gov or ID.me account holders do NOT need to create a new account or take any action.

my Social Security accounts are free, secure, and provide personalized tools for everyone, whether receiving benefits or not. People can use their account to request a replacement Social Security card, check the status of an application, estimate future benefits, or manage the benefits they already receive. For more information visit Create an Account | my Social Security | SSA login.gov

END OF SSA NEWS

I'm not making any change until I receive official notification from SSA on my on-line account. When I do receive this notification I'll simply make the change. It should take all of about 60 seconds.

Whew!

After reading the SSA Newsletter I posted earlier I decided to just go ahead and make the change.

It was quite simple... took me about 3 minutes to complete, and as SSA has stated, I immediately received a confirmation e:mail from SSA and had full access to my account.

SSA has still not sent out official notification - but I just wanted to stay ahead of the curve for peace-of-mind.
