Can you be specific about what that advice was, so that others don't find themselves following incorrect advice?
The advice from Surin was that we only needed to take our UK Civil Partnership certificate to Ubon Ratchathani get it certified and there was no need to go to the UK Embassy for a Permission to Marry Document along with a certified copy of my UK passport, get them translated and approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
When my partner phoned Ubon he was told this was not the case and we had to go through a similar process to Dodger.

I would make the proviso that I can't speak Thai so all the conversations were carried out by my partner and although he is usually able to translate accurately to me he is not always 100% correct in what he tells me

Just a head's up:

After you get the affidavit from your Embassy translated into Thai you will have to take it (along with your other documentation) to the Thai Consulate in Bangkok as I outlined earlier. Once there, you will find that there is a 2-3 day waiting period before they finish certifying the documents you need from them.

You will then be faced with two choices: 1) Sign power-of-attorney over to the Thai Translation Office who you used and they can then collect your documents from the Consulate when complete and mail them to you (for a fee of course), or 2) Hang around Bangkok a few days and collect the documents yourself. Jai and I opted for option 2 and it worked out just fine.

Happy Sailing!
