Topic Scope: Host bars, clothed boys, ie usually no hanky panky in the bar.
I'f I'm buying boy drinks, I'll typically sit with one boy, or perhaps two if he introduces me to a cute friend. Drinks and tips may take this bill over 1000 baht.
No wonder the majority of customers either sit with other farang or alone.
I've not got into buying drinks for multiple boys. However, I gather some might buy drinks for many boys and just leave them with their commission on the drink. Which is still appreciated.
I suppose that may be fair, particularly if the boys are still in circulation, rather than exclusively sitting with a customer.
As I understand it, the boys in Jomtien typically get all of the mark up on a boy drink, which may be 50-60 baht more than the customer drink.

Re: Boy Drinks and Tipping -Host Bars
If the boys really do get the mark up, no objection from me. What I would object to are customers who decide that should constitute the tip for boys who sit with them. The "drink for boy" price should have nothing to do with tipping the boy. In my opinion, the boy who sits with you (if you can tear him away from staring into his phone) and actually gives you attention should get both the mark up and a good tip.
However, if I find out I'm at a bar where the boys get none of the mark up or only a portion of it, that would be the last time I would go to that bar.
And any bar that employs mama-sans, unless I have asked the mama-san to sit with me or I have asked for any kind of service, the mama-san gets nothing.

1 If a boy sits with with me, he alway gets tipped and almost always quite well.
2 However, there are instances where someone buys several boys drinks and they're not necessarily sat with him, that's something I'm not so familiar with.
3 I cant think of a single host bar with a mamasan problem.
