Same-sex marriage - who is doing it?
Now that Thailand's same-sex marriage is about to become law, any board members planning to marry, whether right away or perhaps at a later date?

Was it a legally recognized marriage? If it was, how and where did you do it?

Yes
Where: At a NZ registry office in Auckland in mid-June 2015. Gay marriage was legalised in NZ in ?2013, Australia 2017 after referendum
How: Complete BDM58 (Notice of intended marriage where both parties ordinarily resident outside New Zealand) in advance. All done via Dept of Internal Affairs, NZ Govt.

Belated congratulations, khuntst. I'm glad it is working out well for you. And I learned something. I did not know same-sex marriage is legal in New Zealand and Australia.

I had a Civil Partnership in the UK in 2011 to my Thai partner.
Useful for the UK but, of course, not recognised here in Thailand

That is a good point. The marriage will be legally recognized in Thailand. Will it also be recognized in your home country? I'm wondering, for example, how it might affect USA income tax returns. And if the Thai half of the marriage is supporting family members, especially minor children, but doing so with your money, will you legally be able to claim them as dependents?traveller123 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 2:53 pm Useful for the UK but, of course, not recognised here in Thailand

FYI if you are planning moving to Hong Kong with your boyfriend or girlfriend, then same sex marriage in Thailand or any country where it has been legalized has a legal status for the purposes of a grant of a dependent visa and issue of an HKID card with residency. (and other recently court granted rights such as inheritance; taxation; housing and may be more)
This is a major move for Thailand particularly as other Asian nations are moving in the opposite direction.
