Maybe, but not everyone is willing to share their experiences even though their actual identity on the board is anonymous. Also, this board has a hell of lot more lurkers than members. Lurkers can't post.

Maybe some don't view their experiences as being interesting. How wrong they are.

Thank you.
Interesting and mostly historical experiences. For instance, in 2010, he's referring to Udon Thani being down to 2 gay bars. At least one of which appeared to have lads in underwear from the photos.
When I was last there in 2023, they had 1 gay bar, which was new, but didn't last long & has since closed. From memory, that bar had 4 boys. The lad I fancied was the boyfriend of the owner, so I decided he was off limits.
I note in 2015, back in Udon, he's desperate enough to join a lad of uncertain vintage in a toilet cubicle.
He's also by no means reporting successful hook ups in every town visited. Overall, it seems very balanced.
For example: "There are still some hookers along the moat near the Ya Mo Monument (in the Cathai Hotel area), but one who solicited me had no ID Card and seemed a little bit dangerous so I did not take him - although being so horny after four nights of chastity"

Re: Boys in the provinces, small towns, rice farms, and other boondocks
I have been up and down the country with overnight in 58 province so far. Mostly for sightseeing and see if I can get some fun along the way. In a few cases going to see a particular boy, and sightseeing in that area to justify the trip.
I estimate for me in larger places (Korat, Khon Kaen, Ubon, Udon), after working on online dating for an hour, there is a 50% chance to meet someone. If staying two nights, I would say chances increase because you chat with someone who might not be free today, but tomorrow. I don't like changing hotels and moving my stuff around anyway, so I plan trips to stay two nights in the same hotel.
Furthermore, most boys end up in Pattaya anyway! I lost count of how often I chatted with a boy and noted him down for when I go to his province, in some cases even country, again, and suddenly he is in Pattaya!

Here's another quote from the Puchai Blog:
"November 8, 2007 Khorat
One of the reasons why I love Thailand is that besides the Big Four (Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai), there are around ten towns where you can find gay venues with boys available. Khorat is one of them, besides being known as the gate to Northeast"
I wonder how many other towns have venues with boys available in 2025 ?
Hua Hin is an obvious one, with a gay bar. On my visits, the offer was a massage in the room upstairs. I tried that once and am in no hurry to repeat the experience.
On the most recent visit there, I found a boy on the apps instead. As he's still contacting me 2 years later, I suspect he's not doing much business.

Re: Boys in the provinces, small towns, rice farms, and other boondocks
Years ago Ubon Ratchathani had a gay bar which was supposed to have been quite good. I never went myself, but a board member at the time who lived there used to post about it. Unfortunately it eventually went out of business. I never found out why. As far as I know, no other gay bar ever opened in Ubon Ratchathani.
Also in the provinces, many towns have bars, but not specifically gay bars, but some boys who frequent them or work in them are readily available. The ones who work in them are usually not available as an off, but are available during non-working hours.
Many of you must remember Geezer. He was one of those people who once you meet him, you don't forget him. He and I made a trip to Chiang Mai. There was one particular restaurant we liked. The Art Café if I'm remembering the name correctly. There was one waiter Geezer found very attractive and chatted with him a little bit when he was serving us. Geezer used to carry cards, like business cards, with his name, facial photo, and telephone number on it (a damned good idea). He gave one to the waiter. When he got off work he did contact Geezer and spent the night with him. I had made a bet with Geezer that the boy would neither call nor show up. Geezer's breakfast was on me that next morning . . .
Restaurant waiters and hotel staff often offer good prospects. I even approached a hotel staff worker, but he wasn't gay or if he was, he had zero interest in me. However he said he has a gay friend who may be receptive. He was - and he was unforgettably awesome.
Don't make the mistake of assuming the provinces have little or nothing to offer. That's bullshit! The difference between finding boys in the provinces and in a Pattaya gay bar is in the provinces it is somewhat of a challenge. Think of how much more rewarding it is when you succeed. And unless you're an utter idiot, you will succeed.

Re: Boys in the provinces, small towns, rice farms, and other boondocks
Ubon Rachathani didn't have any gay bars when I was last there. Sometime in the last 5 years.
They did have one male massage shop, but the only lad who interested me wasn't available.
Fortunately, I did hook up with the receptionist at my hotel.
Now for some stats.
For easy maths, let's assume the average age of boys we meet is approx 25. Now the Thai birth rate in 2000 was about half that in 1980. The population was up about 30%, so I'm estimating a 35% drop in the number of 25 year olds in the last 20 years.
So for every 100 boys, it's now 65.
Of that 65, perhaps half will have moustaches and a few of the remaining ones would be too overweight for my tastes. So let's assume we have ~25 interesting boys where there might have been 100 boys 20 years ago. Approximately.
In Pattaya, the shortfall has been made up by boys from Laos, Cambodia etc. Which is fine.
In the provinces, I guess we need to work harder at finding them?

Re: Boys in the provinces, small towns, rice farms, and other boondocks
The Ubon bar closed much more than 5 years ago. I mentioned it already long closed down in a post I wrote in 2014 : https://www.gaybuttonthai.com/viewtopic ... 210#p66210 That entire topic tells what the go-go bar scene used to be like. Today, it's a shadow of what it used to be. That's one of the reasons I rarely bother with the bars at all anymore. Don't skip that topic, folks.
I think when you do reel one in when in the provinces, that is far more satisfying than going to a bar and the only thing you have to do is merely decide which one you want.
Re: Boys in the provinces, small towns, rice farms, and other boondocks
Looking at the big picture:
Thailand's aging population, coupled with this generation of Thais having fewer children, has already created a shortage of skilled workers needed to support Thai industries. That means more job opportunities for the younger generation which is a good thing, but this could also create problems if there aren't enough skilled workers to support the demand going forward. You can bet foreign investors are keeping a close eye on this.
These rural provinces and small towns we're talking about will always be home to the Thais, and even with the changes being discussed here that will never change. As far as the "availability" question that seems to have centered itself in this conversation - of course there's availability...if anything the availability in rural Thailand will increase over time due to the changing demographics. At the same time, more and more immigrants will be filling the shoes on the working scenes in PTY/BKK/Phuket, etc.
What will be interesting is to see how the laws evolve regarding immigrant sex workers in Thailand in the future. If there's any "availability" to be concerned about I would imagine it would involve them.
On a personal note: I really could care less about the "availability" because I already have a boyfriend who I adore (as you guys already know) and have zero interest in being with anyone else. What I do like is the fact that the younger generation of Thais will have more opportunities to find decent jobs - which in-turn would elevate the standard-of-living for all Thais.
