Finally...something of substance for the LGBTQ community to celebrate.
I think the vast percentage of gay marriages in 2025 will be Thai couples - not farang.
As mentioned before Jai and I will make it official at some juncture primarily to take advantage of the provisions that will allow us as legal spouses to make emergency medical decisions for each other, as well as provide additional assurances that our Last Will & Testament is handled without any glitches.
Other than that we don't plan any celebrations or fanfare. We've been together for over 10 years and have always considered ourselves as being married in spirit (which matters the most), where the marriage certificate in-and-by-itself will really do very little for us.

Wood and I will do the same for the same reasons - 12 years ago when we built our house he talked me into a massive party "because we will never have a wedding party"Dodger wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 11:27 am Finally...something of substance for the LGBTQ community to celebrate.

We enlarged and modernized Jai's house years ago - followed by the monks blessings and a 3 day party for the family. Being gay, this was also symbolic of our bonding together with the whole family present which we feel will suffice.traveller123 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 6:17 pm

Jai (being on the reserved side) also has a real dislike for large gatherings of drunk people with blazing music. And, in his words, that's all these Isaan marriages are about. I know because I've been there and done that once before in an earlier chapter of my life and can still hear the BOOM - BOOM - BOOM rattling my brains...

Good luck going forward.

Thailand to Celebrate Marriage Equality Landmark
By Goongnang Suksawat
3 December, 2024
Thailand is preparing to celebrate a landmark moment as it becomes the first Southeast Asian country and the third in Asia to legalize marriage equality. Prime Minister’s Office Minister Jiraporn Sindhuprai, on December 2, delivered a keynote speech during the “Marriage Equality Day” press event at Siam Paragon, reaffirming the government’s commitment to equal rights for all citizens, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
The marriage equality law, enacted under the leadership of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, provides legal recognition and protections for LGBTQIA+ couples. The legislation reflects Thailand’s dedication to diversity and inclusivity across gender identities, ethnicities, and religions. The milestone was achieved through collaboration among political parties and civil society, as well as the steadfast advocacy of LGBTQIA+ communities in raising awareness and promoting acceptance.
To honor this historic occasion, “Marriage Equality Day” will take place on January 23, 2025, with a large-scale event hosted by Bangkok Pride at Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon. LGBTQIA+ couples will have the opportunity to officiate their unions and participate in various activities celebrating love and equality.
The achievement represents Thailand’s progressive advancements in human rights and its commitment to fostering an equitable society where all citizens are treated with dignity and respect.
The preceding is a press release from the Thai Government PR Department.
