It is more than just a loophole. It is an amendment to the US Constitution, namely the 14th Amendment which came into being July 9, 1868.

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."

That is certainly clear enough. The problem is nothing is said about the parents of those children - whether those parents are legal citizens or not.

That opens the door for separating families - something I believe is wrong and I hope won't be done.

Changing this law would require another Constitutional Amendment, which would take years of debate and would be extremely unlikely to ever happen.

IMO, there’s no way very many here illegally will be deported. It would be too chaotic and too many resources spent.
And neither party will admit that they really want more immigration. Low cost labour and the Democrats know they will mostly vote for their party. So they can run idiotic bimbos like communist Kamala who can barely put a sentence or cohesive thought together, and still win elections.

I give deportations as much chance as the government has of cutting spending.

Hopefully today will mark the beginning of the end of Trump and a return to the Republican Party before MAGA.

Now it's over. Trump won. Not by much, but he won.

I wasn't expecting him to win in 2016 and I wasn't expecting him to win now.

We'll see what happens.

He won by a lot. Won popular vote , first time in 20 years for a Republican. No surprise here as the Democrats had a no substance candidate.

In terms of delegates, or whatever the unit of measurement is, he won by a large margin.

I think electing Trump is unwise, particularly after considering the performance after losing the previous election. It reminds me of a previous event: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_Hall_Putsch

I think he's an idiot, with some bad character traits & is unfit to hold office.

However, I see why those who pay US taxes might just be prepared to compromise & elect the idiot. Taxes & spending are out of control in many western economies.
