Invasive Fish Species

Post by Jun »

"The blackchin tilapia continues to spread through Thailand's waterways, so far impacting 17 provinces.

The blackchin tilapia prey on small fish, shrimp, and snail larvae, which are among Thailand's important aquaculture products.

The Thai government has also doubled the amount that it will pay people who catch the fish, to 15 baht ($0.42; £0.33) per kilogram."

Paying people to catch pests has been done before.
The French did it with rats in Hanoi. When they noticed the rat population wasn't declining, they eventually discovered that rats were being farmed to collect the bounty.

The same thing happened in India, when the colonial power attempted to control the Cobra population.

Watch out for the ones with purple chins as well.

They were last spotted in Nova Scotia but can swim at the speed-of-light and are reportedly heading towards Pattaya Beach right now. They are worth 20 baht each - but apparently most people prefer keeping them as pets because they can actually be taught to speak - similar to parrots...

You had a very interesting mind, Dodger. I really hate to see it go . . .
