An Immigration query I don't really know the answer to ...

Post by Smiles »

A friend of mine sent me this email yesterday asking me for some Immigration advice.
Once I had read it I scratched my head and admitted to myself that I really didn't know the answer to his question. I've never come across this one before, and I certainly do not want to send incorrect information to him.
I haven't written back yet, but thought I'd run it by the massive Collective Brain  on this Board for some guidance.
Hi David,

I'm filling out the visa for my roommate Danny. He is going to be vacationing in Thailand for 90 days. I'm told he should apply for a Tourist Visa (60 days) and then once in Thailand, apply for a 30-day extension.

As I fill in the application, it asks for an arrival and departure date. If I put the actual arrival and departure dates, it would add up to 90 days. Can I put those dates on the Tourist Visa which is supposed to be for 60 days?

Does that make any sense? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Cheers ... ( and just one more reason why I love living in Thailand )

What are the arrival and departure dates on his air tickets? I would think you'd need to be consistent.

- Can we assume that he will not be going out of Thailand during his stay here?

- Do his arrival and departure dates actually add up to 90 days or less as counted by Immigration? Meaning, the arrival date counts as 1, not 0.

Putting the factual travel dates on the application should not cause a problem. Note: he should apply for the extension about two weeks before the end of his 60 days.

Suggest you post this question on Thaivisa.com
Ask UbonJoe ..
he along with others following their visa forum will give good advice.

Yes, put in actual arrival/departure dates as per the airline ticket.

It really doesn't matter anyway. Once the tourist visa is issued you can use it anytime to enter up until the expiration date of the visa. And once in Thailand can remain 60 days + 30 days extension.

Between the info on this thread and also some emails I've received I think my friend in Florida will be fine.
