Tarntawan Apartments

Post by readerc54 »

I ran into Lucas at his Dick's Cafe (Bangkok) and he invited me to tour the Tarntawan Apartments (corner Suriwong and Soi Tarntawan). Lucas continues to manage the property that houses 15 one-bedroom apartments and some single rooms. It was brighter and cleaner than it appears in the pics on Agoda. He's in the process of redesigning his site that will concentrate on promoting the apartments. However, I believe you can still (for the time being) contact him at "tarntawan.com" for rooms at the hotel.

Many of the apartment units had long-term tenants but 10 have moved out, making them available for short-term rentals. The building is owned by a local who is not the same owner of the hotel. The hotel, I understand, is not now--or will be--for sale.

Dick's Cafe continues to be a great perch for watching the world go by. The prices for food and drink remain reasonable. Lucas has introduced a "roast night" on Wednesdays and a salmon special on Fridays.

Stayed a few days at TP hotel on arrival. Some observations:
-other than no longer being offered all day, noticed no changes at breakfast.
-front desk seemed efficient
-staff cutbacks very noticeable. The elevator guards often double as bell hops. The day guy also worked as breakfast server and could often be found behind desk, taking care of keys and other tasks. Only one of the three bell hops retained and he also fills in behind desk and at breakfast.
-only one waitress on duty until about 10p.m. No room service menus in room.
-business center is now located where Director's office use to be. Library moved into this space. Only one computer working.
-observed several Chinese groups
-saw only three overnight "guests" at breakfast.

These days where is Lucas hanging out? At the Cafe in Soi Twilight or does he have an office somewhere?

Lucas has converted the old web address for Tarntawan Place to the new address for the Tarntawan Apartments. Those interested in staying there can choose from among three categories of accommodations (studio, grand studio and corner studio). The photos on the site are limited. Prices are not listed; you have to wait for an email reply. You can also choose to call to get more info or make reservations.

There are 40 rooms on 10 floors. They offer airport pick up for bht 1100.
