As most of you know, the official 30 day suspension of entertainment activities, in respect to the passing of His Majesty, the King, concludes Monday, November 14. However, the official mourning period is one year. It is the government's decision as to what activities, events, TV programming, etc. will be maintained or lifted during the one year mourning period.
The following is the latest information:

Cabinet mulls end of entertainment ban
1 Nov 2016
The cabinet will consider on Tuesday whether to allow entertainment activities and TV soap operas to resume on Nov 14, when the 30 day suspension of such activities ends.
Government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the government's situation monitoring command centre discussed the issue Monday and wants the situation to return to normal as soon as possible.
On Oct 18 the government asked business and entertainment operators as well as television stations to suspend entertainment activities and programmes for 30 days.
As a result, the centre will propose Tuesday that the cabinet allow such activities to resume. Local authorities will be encouraged to contact the centre regarding any doubts about which activities will be allowed to resume.

That's the point. Nobody knows "which is it" yet. According to the article the maybe the ban will be lifted and maybe it won't. That's why the cabinet is meeting - to make their decisions. Obviously they are likely to at least partially lift the ban. Otherwise their meeting would be pointless.thewayhelooks wrote:a confusing headline. Which is it?
I'm guessing the ban will be partially lifted, but not fully lifted. What will or will not be permitted, and when, remains to be seen.
Of course, when more details become available they will be posted here.

On the news/radio this morning, here in EUR: about the same, but with a more certain tone it will be toned down. It seems tourism is down, nearly all cruise-boats have cancelled their stops in Th for that 30-day period, airlines offer free changed bookings to other places and apparently there are also too many people unsatisfeid with what TV etc offers for such a long time now.
OTOH: mails from the local Thai TAT/tourist promotion office: visitors are expected to show the same signs as Thai and for that purpose black ribbons etc are distributed at airports (and ports, landborders etc.)

Thank you for the update, Alex. I'm planning to visit next month although a ban wouldn't have altered my plans. I don't need sex shows or late-night entertainment venues to keep myself entertained in Thailand!Alex wrote:Entertainment activities can resume Nov 14 http://bit.ly/2eSfpRZ #BangkokPost
