That's a good result. It also seems to be the variant in the UK (below).

Infection is almost inevitable for anyone who is actively socialising and has a few decades ahead of them.

Butterflying ought to increase the odds of catching whatever is going around too.

Dodger wrote: Fri May 16, 2025 1:20 pmI made a file on my desktop listing each and every medication the hospital gave me to treat my condition. Understanding that all of these medications, including the anti-viral pills, can be purchased at a local clinic
That's exactly the kind of thing I would do.

How long were you actually ill for & what was the cost of the anti-viral pills at a local clinic or pharmacy?
With no treatment, the duration of my symptoms correlated quite well with the photo of the tests posted on the previous page.
I probably caught XBB1.5 +F456L (in Spain) & the previous vaccine had been 381 days earlier (Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA.1 )

Catching covid during a Thai holiday would curtail the fun, so anything that speeds up recovery would be good.

The duration from the first day I noticed symptoms until full recovery was 8 days.

Molnupiravir 200 mg anti-viral cap = 2,600 THB. (BKK/Jomtien Hospital) Probably half this price at a local clinic or pharmacy.

Total medication costs = 3,185 THB

I suspect you have had Covid several times, and just not noticed. Last time I had Covid, I had no idea. Two friends, with whom I had been out to dinner, told me they had tested positive, so I tested. I was positive, for a week, but no symptoms, except possibly a runny nose. Maybe I was lucky, but I have heard many similar stories. I take every vaccine on offer, here in the UK, for me, it's annual. Not sure what last version was!

You're probably right - and I wish I didn't notice it this time either...

From now on I'll get a booster once a year like a good boy scout.

Nom has just sent me this:

Although he is still coughing a lot he is sounding better.

I don’t know how to interpret the test but he seems happy with it.

The only antiviral that works is paxlovid. The only medication that alleviate symptoms is ibuprofen or similar ones. You can safely throw away everything else.
I tend to disagree. I was prescribed Molnupiravir and it worked fine.

I know it has a lower efficacy rating than Remdesivir and some of the others, but it worked in 5 days just like the doctor said it would.

The new covid anti-viral Paxloivd you refer to may or may not be available yet in Thailand. I'd do some research on this but it doesn't matter now because I'm already cured.
Paxlovid is available in Thailand. I got it in BPH first time I got COVID. You absolutely cannot know whether Molnupiraravir worked or you just recovered on your own. It is inefficient and would not risk my life relying on it.

I believe the C line is "control" and tells you the test is working. The T line is "Test".
Since there is a C line on the covid side and not even a faint T line, he has passed.

I'm guessing the flu test is void, as no C line.

I doubt Dodger was risking his life anyway. Most people who are in good health and not overweight recover from covid. Particularly those who have had vaccines, even if a couple of years ago.

As for the efficacy of the drug, here is a link to one of the original trials. https://www.nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NEJMoa2116044
That was published in 2021 and was on unvaccinated adults. Now what's the problem with that ?

To be honest I rely on one thing and one thing only, and that's the care I take to make sure I remain healthy so when I do contact a virus like this I can avoid being classified as "high risk". I credit my healthy lifestyle to my quick recovery more than anything else.

Contrary to what is written on other forums, covid vaccines have been in constant development to update for newer covid variants.

For example, Pfizer have launched 4 different vaccines in 4 years.
