Also, it is potentially confusing.
Up there with Sunee Intimate Boy Bar, which is, of course, in Jomtien.

Jomtien complex.
[Comments from another thread, to keep that on topic]

Isn't Jomtien complex thriving ?
Whilst there have been a few high profile closures in the centre of the main soi, around the fringes, my impression is there are more bars than ever. I guess the rents might be too high in the centre.

Here's a JC map from 2008, followed by a recent one: Image

Were you here in 2008?

If you missed it...2008 was still in Gay Thailand's Hay Day...with Pattaya's Boyztown being directly in the center of the HOTTEST TIMES on Earth. Even JC, with only a handful of boy bars, was packed with excitement every night...plenty of sleaze...plenty of cute boys to be found...and of course the opportunity to rub elbows with the infamous Monty which was quiet the experience.

I haven't even mentioned Sunee Plaza (my home away from home) yet which was still in full-gear - renowned as being one of the HOTTEST and SURREALISTIC gay scenes on the planet, if not the HOTTEST!

To keep it simple...everything was better in 2008.

Yes, I visited Pattaya in 2008.
I've also been a customer of numerous Jomtien Bars in 2024. Have you ?

My most positive memory of Jomtien Complex from around 2008 was walking though it late in the afternoon and making an unplanned stop at the Two Faces bar. Followed by an unplanned & very pleasant massage with the adorable Sam upstairs.

There can be no doubt that BoyzTown, Sunee Plaza & Dongtan Beach have deteriorated since 2008.
However, in my opinion, Jomtien Complex is the one area that has improved.

I wonder what other people who still visit the bars on a regular basis would think ?

Jomtien complex has improved since 2008. At least the bars have. The Thai boys have mostly been replaced by Cambodian, Lao and some Burmese guys. But still a decent amount to be found there.

Last night it seemed very quiet again. Not like this time last year. Maybe just a slow Thursday night but I brought it up with some workers there. It almost felt like being the only customer in a go go and they’re all looking at you. That’s the vibe I got.

And it’s kind of all that’s left. There’s expensive Boystown and the remains of Sunnee. Less customers, less boys.

As I have said many times, I very rarely go to the bars these days. Meanwhile I have been reading the posts about how Cambodian, Lao, Burmese, and more rarely Vietnamese boys are the ones who work in the bars now, far more than Thai boys.

I am wondering - have those of you who frequent these bars and take boys off noticed any correlation between nationality of the boys and how "good" they are in private and how willing they are to perform?

I haven't been a "regular" in the bars for quite some time now. But I certainly was quite a "regular" in 2008. Some of you may remember the gentleman whose screen name was Let Me Tell You - shortened to LMTU - would refer to us regulars at Corner Bar as The Barmy Army.

To the best of my memory, it was actually Undaunted who first noticed and began posting about the decline, especially Sunee Plaza. I would dispute and deny it, but it didn't take very long to realize Undaunted was right and I was wrong - and things truly were spiraling down to the way it all is now.

I am happy that Jomtien Complex is thriving and attracting Pattaya's gay scene, but for those of us "old timers", as good as today's gay scene might be in Pattaya, it is only a ghost of the way things were in the go-go bar heyday.

In my opinion the downhill slide began and was caused by two factors:

1. The advent of the hookup apps and boys no longer hunting for farang customers at the beach.

2. I am fully convinced things really began to decline when Michael (Crabby) and Thomas sold and left Sunee Plaza's Corner Bar. Since that day things were just never the same again.

I miss those days. If it was still today the way it all was then, I probably still would be a "regular", but I have mostly lost interest in going to the bars.
