I think the goal of the Republican National Committee is no longer trying to get Trump elected president. I think they have written off his chances of winning the election. I think what they're trying to do now is save their standing in Congress, state legislatures, governors, etc. If Hillary does win, along with a sweep in associated elections, especially if it establishes a clear Democrat majority, then the Republican party is, as Jimmy Durante once said, "In the terlet."

I dislike the Republican stance on most issues, but I think Donald Trump's candidacy does not truly reflect what most Republicans stand for. After all, does the Republican party really want to do things such as build the wall, try to round up and deport every illegal alien, ban all Muslims from entering the USA, or have a person who speaks the way Trump does to hold one of the world's most powerful offices along with having his finger on the atomic weapon trigger? I hope not.

Trump said his efforts resulted in $5.6 million in donations to 40 veterans’ groups. Below is a list of the organizations, with links to their pages on Charity Navigator, an independent organization that rates the transparency and efficiency of charitable groups.
I must admit I've never heard of this list of contributions. I assume Charity Navigator is legit, but strangely no news service (including Trump's surrogate, Fox News) has rebutted the charge that Trump has lied about his charitable contributions. Is there any verifiable way to show that these gifts actually came from Trump? The lack of news coverage makes me suspicious.

I've just got this niggling in my stomach (notice, I did not say 'brain') that 'something' is going to happen before September is over.
Not sure what that 'something' is:
  • Might Trump give it all up and retreat to his garish penthouse (and if he does, might Pence become the nominee as there would be little time left for another convention?)
  • Might Trump weasel out of the debates ~ knowing full well he'll get slaughtered by Clinton ~ and make up a niagara of excuses why he would do so? They're rigged?
  • Might the Republican Party grow some balls and throw Trump to the lions before it's too late? (See above: 'Pence')

The chances of verifying the release of gifts from Trump are every bit as good as the release of his tax returns.

Huh? Is that what you meant to say? Since Trump is clearly NOT going to release his tax returns, did I read what you said correctly in that you agree there is no way of verifying those gifts?

Interesting that Trump is raising funds but spending very little...maybe here is why:

I think you don't need the niggling. Even if Pence becomes the nominee today, I doubt at this late date he would stand much of a chance against Hillary.

If Trump weasels out of debates, I would imagine the excuse will be the debates are rigged too. Even now Trump is saying the media is biased against him. And who runs the debates? The media. I can even picture him losing his temper right in the middle of the debate, accusing the media of rigging the questions, and walking out.

Blaming the media - saying the media is biased against him. Does that remind you of anyone?

Today Trump says he will tell what his plan is for defeating ISIS. I can hardly wait for this one. Even if his plan somehow makes perfect sense, I don't see that as enough to recover his losses and defeat Hillary. He still wants to ban anyone from Islamic terrorist areas from entering the USA.

At this point, I doubt it would make much difference if the Republicans get rid of Trump or not. I think it would take a "Dewey Defeats Truman" type of miracle for a Republican to win the presidency now. My take on it is if the Republican higher-ups have any sense, they'll focus their efforts in trying to win Congressional, state, and local elections. They still have a chance to do well with those.

Nahhh, that won't happen. After all, Obama and Hillary founded ISIS and are admired by ISIS, remember? And don't forget, Obama is secretly Islamic too. ISIS wouldn't dream of doing anything to hurt their founders . . .

My biggest fear of all (mentioned in an earlier post), a major ISIS-inspired atrocity in America close to the election date designed to send fainthearts scurrying into the Trump camp.
I agree. The Nazis in 1933 orchestrated the burning of the Reichstag, blamed it on the Communists, and .... well, history.
It's a bit of a stretch to compare Trump to Hitler (luckily Trump is an idiot ... Hitler was not) but the tactics, although less toxic, have the same ring. Trump is already playing around with the concept of muzzling, for instance, the 'New York Times' because that newspaper is not "treatin' me right".

I agree. Just as Dan Quayle is no Jack Kennedy, Donald Trump is no Adolf Hitler. But I can certainly see similarities - too many. I can't help but wonder just how far Trump would go if he knew he could get away with it.

Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president. Between Lincoln and Hitler, which of the two does Trump remind you of most?

I never thought in a million years I would say this, but I would actually take George W. Bush back before I would take Trump.
