There are several Expats here who do online business outside of Thailand without a work permit. Currently, I am not aware of any that have run afoul of Thai authorities or Immigration as a result. A Canadian friend of mine obtained and Digital nomad visa and while here serviced his IT customers in Canada. When he returned to Canada, he chose to obtain a Non Immigrant O (retirement) visa for his return. He continues to take care of his IT clients in Canada. Being a retiree, he cannot get a work permit, but has no concerns about having any problems with Thai authorities.

As for asking a Thai Embassy or Immigration's advice, good luck! Embassies, being part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have been known to not answer such questions and but when the do, based on reports I have seen, may give the wrong advice regarding requirements of other Ministries. As to Immigration, you might get a favorable answer or just be waving a red flag in front of the bull if you are here Visa exempt or with a Tourist visa.

My thoughts on the subject, but as they say in Thailand, "Up to You."

I think he is doing a lot of worrying over nothing. Whitedesire, do you have any evidence of problems about doing your work, which has nothing to do with Thailand, or having two screens in your room? Aren't you simply making it up? I know of no basis for any of it.

There are plenty of reasons for having 2 screens in your room that have nothing to do with paid work. From hobbies to investing your own money. So they would have one hell of a job figuring out what you're doing.

I'd select a visa that's optimum according to the time you plan to spend in Thailand.
If you plan to do something like 2x 2 month stays per year, you could do visa exemption & when that's abolished, go for 60 day tourist visas.
If you're planning to do ~6 months per year in Thailand, or more, you probably need something more permanent.

Suggest you follow the DTV visa forum on FB.

Get the DTV visa for Workcation before you leave your home country. The UK Thai Embassy is issuing many DTV visas.

It's a 5 year multiple entry tourist visa...and allows you to work FROM Thailand with customers outside of Thailand.

Use the search ๐Ÿ” tool top of the forum page
ENTER... UK workcation
CLICK on it and all posts about getting the DTV visa for Workcation from the UK Thai Embassy will Pop Up to read the posts and experiences of others.

Good Luck ๐Ÿ€
