The temporary halt of Chinese tour groups has positive impact:

I know who will be over the moon about the busses!

But what a weird half written article that just seemed to fizzle out into some photos. Still it is that awful local rag...

Hi, I don’t know how you get about town but I travel on my motorbike and the difference without these tour buses is huge also I don’t miss the black smoke that bellows out from all their Diesel engines.

I agree it wasn't the finest piece of journalism. Hopelessly incomplete. Probably decided it's time to go to the bar part way through.

It is certainly wonderful for people like us who live here however, those businesses that rely on the tour groups must be hurting.......Oh well.....enjoy it while it lasts :!:

Now it seems might be a good time to take a side trip to Kho Larn. I used to go frequently but then the Chinese tour groups moved in being shuttled via speed boats from Beach Rd and flag marched to pre arranged seating. There's still other package tourists that include Kho Larn but the bulk was Chinese.

I have pleasant memories of the Kho Larn of days past. I don't expect it's going to return to what it was in 80's and 90's but now perhaps a pleasant side trip. Unless the beach concessions have just shut down now?

I don't recall a Kho Larn trip report on any of the boards in many years?

same here for BKK-whereas area near Sanam Luang/Royal palace used to be overflowing with chinese in tourbuses its now near empty. But at least 80-90% of any Thai tourbus runs on gas and is made in China so is even unable to sprout out black DIESELfumes. Perhaps they have collected all remaining oldies to serve the farang oldies there in Patters?

Please could you provide a link to some evidence that supports these claims ?
Ie 80-90% of Thai tour buses run on gas AND are made in China.

You posted a similar claim about buses running on gas a couple of weeks ago and declined to quote the sources. Making stuff up isn't good enough.

Here is a 2016 article on the Thai bus market. Since the average life of a Thai bus is many years, it follows that 80-90% of the buses are service not going to be Chinese at the start of 2020. Even if their current sales have increased, there will be all the older buses. The tour buses I see include a mixture of brands.

I agree with Jun, that your idea that most of the Chinese made tour buses used in Thailand run on gas versus diesel fuel, is questionable at best.

China is a huge manufacturer of buses of all sizes. Many of the smaller buses, including city buses, run on either gas, diesel, hybrid or electric, although the huge tour buses they manufacture, which you see blowing all that black smoke in Thailand, run exclusively on diesel fuel. Below are links to tour bus ads from the largest tour bus manufacturers in China for your review:

https://kingboardyang.en.made-in-china. ... t-Bus.html.

https://sino-truck.en.made-in-china.com ... g-Bus.html

https://sino-truck.en.made-in-china.com ... -Sale.html

A point worth mentioning, is that anything and everything manufactured in China is low quality, including their motor vehicles. The fact that they commonly blow black smoke out of the exhaust could be from a variety of reasons, not just the fuel type. Hell, half of these cheaply-made jalopies don't even have rear engine compartment doors that can stay on the hinges.
