Just an aside: you are probably correct about it coming from MSNBC. There are so many talking heads these days I often forget who or which network I'm watching.
I guess CNN is default to my brain.

For me, it's the same with Bill Maher's "Real Time" show. Everybody on the panel always interrupts and talks over each other.
For me the worst example of mass hystrionics is on The View. 90% catfights at any given moment

After the first 35 minutes I began intermittently hitting the mute button. Kaine was getting truly annoying, over-talking Pence and with stuff he could have held until his time rolled around. Pence IMO maintained a more statesman-like demeanor. With Kaine I think it was a case of too much coaching and pressing to recite canned talking points. Of course Pence engaged in some of the same but with greater restraint and dignity.

I'm persuaded that these candidates approached the debate with different objectives. Kaine was chiefly playing attack dog for his running mate, a style for which he is ill-suited. Although he made the obligatory defenses of Trump, Pence knew that what he was doing was auditioning for the 2020 GOP top job, whether Trump wins or loses. In that respect, I believe he easily succeeded.

It was embarrassingly evident that Pence is much better prepared to lead than Trump but I continue to believe that Hillary is the most experienced candidate to run for that office in decades.

I think you're right. I don't know how Pence got Trump to give him the vice presidential pick, but now Pence, who I had never heard of before, is a household word and I believe he's going to make sure it stays that way. Unless either or both of them screw things up, I won't be at all surprised if the 2020 presidential race will be President Hillary Clinton vs Pence.

If Trump loses, and I think he will, I don't think we will have heard the last of Pence.

A loser is a loser; if Trump loses then so does Pence and that will the the last word on him. He is a governor and not likely to go beyond that. Think Sarah Palin.

A compelling argument indeed. But, Palin came across ~ eventually ~ as the quintessential nut case and was, eventually, thought as so by the GOP.
Pence is not the ridiculous loser which Palin turned out to be, he is a serious right winger who seems to know how to speak to right wing values, and knows how to get his right wing message across. His views are anathema to me, but they are not the voice of clowns ... as are Trump and Palin.
Which, makes him more dangerous than the clowns.

I don't like Pence or what he stands for, but Sarah Palin is in a category of her own.

When I think of Sarah Palin, I can't help but be reminded of the following:

I think the fact that Pence is a serious right winger disqualifies him more (for 2020) than running with Trump. The GOP occasionally forgets that a right winger cannot attract enough votes especially in states that matter most, but by and large, their frontrunner is more moderate and the hardcore right wingers play second fiddle. They do, after all, scare the kids and the majority of the electorate.

Add to this that Pence has no charisma whatsoever and is utterly boring; I fail to see how he could excite anyone beyond the usual crowd of like minded nutters.
